To be honest, I've read more diet books than I've been on diets. Most of them leave me cold and make little sense other than just another fad. This is the first book that I've read that actually makes sense. The title should replace the word "diet" with "lifestyle" because in the US, the word diet invokes the anticipation of restriction - starving - and short term weight loss.
This book explains so much about what happens in our body when certain types of food are consumed and what causes the systems to go haywire. It also gives you the information to correct what's going on that is causing that spare tire around the middle.
The Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load information can be a little confusing to completely understand, but it is spelled out in a useful list. The book includes a 4 week meal plan which you can follow to the T or just understand the principles and eat those things you enjoy.
If you have type II diabetes in your family, this book is a must read - life saving book.

The information given in the first chapters is useful in general terms.
The diet proposed (because it is really a diet) feels draconian and difficult to implement on a permanent basis, at least with the info at hand. I found many parts confusing, ultimately generating more questions than providing answers.Perhaps the book will grow on me with a second reading. I also find the fact that it is a previously published book with a different title borderline dishonest given that I purposely bought a book published in 2009 expecting it to integrate recent information.

So far this book is what I expected; a diet on lowering blood sugar spikes, eating lots of veggies and fruit and eliminating or cutting back on white flour, sugar and processed food. It was a bit tedious to get through some chapters, but once I understood the diet and what to do it became a bit more interesting. I have only been on the new eating plan a couple of weeks, and have not weighed myself since starting, so I am not sure if I have lost weight, but I can tell you it is pretty easy to stick to. The recipes are tasty and give you some interesting ways to prepare vegetables, since you have to eat so many, variety is a must! I love the Greek inspired yogurt sauces, as well as eating oily fish like Salmon. I can see myself sticking to this routine because you're eating real food and nothing is really off limits, just occasionally treat yourself to food it suggest you avoid. It's not a no carb diet because you can have a reward meal once a day and eat whole grains, brown rice etc. It's pretty flexible and focuses on long term health rather than a quick fix to lose a few pounds. I will update this review after a month when I weight myself.

This book has a lot of very good information and is very important for anyone having Type II diabetes. It clearly tells you what to eat and how to balance meals so that blood sugar will not rise quickly after a meal. Many examples of foods that are low on the Glycemic Scale are given so that people can make more intelligent choices about what to eat. I recommend this book for anyone who would like to have a healthier way of eating.

Dr Fedon Lindberg's book "The GI Mediterranean Diet" is the best on the subject. He explains what works and what doesn't work in a way everyone
can understand and benefit from. I recommend it to anyone who is serious about losing weight and improving their health at the same time.

i am reading this book and will buy different goceries to begin following their advise. Good Job! We live in an age where most food sold is refined with additives to enable long shelf life and long shipping times. Most foods have traveled farther than I did on my last vacation. No wonder we are dying of cancer like my wife did.Every one should read this book.
