Book Description

April 25, 2011

At just five years old, Maureen Hancock discovered her ability to communicate with the dead. Descended from a long line of legendary Irish mystics, she was no stranger to the spiritual realm, but for fear of being misunderstood by her friends and family she kept the otherworldly messages to herself, eventually suppressing them completely.

Maureen wouldn't hear the spirits again until she was in a near-fatal car crash. Soon after, she had hundreds of voices in her head, many of which helped her crack cases and expose fraud in her role as a litigation paralegal at a large Boston law firm. Then, when tragedy struck on 9/11, Maureen was bombarded with messages from the spirit world. As each one made contact with her, she finally came to terms with her calling: to communicate with the deceased, assist the dying, search for missing children, and teach the living about life after death, all the while raising her children in her suburban home.

Maureen Hancock is literally is the Medium Next Door, and in this book and through her stories of her encounters with the otherworld as well as guided exercises at the conclusion of each chapter, she offers the same comfort and wisdom she shares in her healing encounters and lectures about what is out there waiting for all who are open to its mysteries. . . .

The Medium Next Door - A Review

"I see dead people..."

This famous line from the very popular movie, The Sixth Sense, has been quoted over and over, but for Maureen Hancock communing with the dead isn't a joke, it's a way of life.

In The Medium Next Door, Maureen shares her life story which includes some of her own tragedies as well as her ability to hear and respond to the dead.  This unique talent of Maureen's has helped many grieving people obtain peace, she has solved mysteries, assisted the dying and has landed her her very own television show.

What makes Maureen different from all the other "ghostbusters"?  "I enjoy making people smile," Maureen says.  "I think what differentiates me from other spirit mediums is that I believe our loved ones in spirit enjoy coming through with a celebration and not reliving another wake."  In addition Maureen likes to "jump in with humour and help the person left behind know that it's okay to continue living, laughing and celebrating these great memories."

Even if you're skeptical about "ghosts" and an afterlife, Maureen's candor and readings are chillingly accurate - I found myself wishing she had a message from beyond for me!  She also looks like an ordinary mom (no layers of flowing scarves and dangling jewelry).  Her humor throughout the book is a wonderful change for a subject that could otherwise be morose.

I will admit I had my doubts about Maureen's authenticity when I first picked up her book, however, the more I read the more I believed she truly does have a wonderful gift and the fact that she uses it for good (lots of time for free) is just more convincing.

Review

"Maureen's ability to interpret and understand messages from the deceased is remarkable. She describes events, locations, and situations so eerily; it's as if she were present when these events occurred. I'm amazed and awestruck at her comprehension and specific knowledge of the lives of people that she's never even met. Her interpretations are inspiring and comforting to the grandest skeptic. A must read for anyone that has lost a loved one and has questions about death, dying, and the continuity of life."

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to review The Medium Next Door. In her book Maureen walks you through her life and how she got to where she is today. Maureen was raised Irish Catholic in a large family of nine children. She begins her story with her life as a child and how a near death experience opened up her intuition allowing her to see spirits. She explains why she turned this off as a child until another tragic accident when she was 25 brought it all back plus more, now she could also hear spirits speaking.

Maureen is a wife and mother of 2 boys and her everyday life is pretty normal consisting of getting her sons off to school in the morning and in the evening home for dinner, then off again for her Postcard from Heaven events, which keep her very busy. In between she manages her non-profit organizations: Seeds of Hope and Mission for the Missing. What I liked most about this book is how genuine and gentle a soul Maureen is and her passion for helping others to feel happiness through her readings. In chapter 17 "Tales from the Trenches" Maureen shares some readings and encounters which left me laughing and other times in tears. This book is part memoir with tips and suggestions you the reader can apply to your own life to help you heal if you have lost a loved one or to tune your own sensitive abilities. Abilities Maureen explains everyone has, just some are more in tune than others. Maureen is a gifted lady who uses her psychic gift including her gift of comedy to help her to connect spirits of the deceased with those that come to her in search of healing. I read The Medium Next Door in 2 days a record for me, I just had a hard time putting it down. Maureen speaks about her struggle with anxiety and depression due to her gift. I have only heard this talked about once before from a Medium and it only confirms Maureen is for real. This is something I share with her due to my own inner conflict with feelings of sensitivity. This book is a true inspiration and a must read for those who have the gift of being sensitive and for those who have lost loved ones due to tragedy or illness.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Medium Next Door by Maureen Hancock May 7, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sitting down with Maureen and having her recall her awakenings and experiences with distinct clarity and vision is just another testimonial that God reaches into us and through us to understand that our loved ones are truly with us and help us along our own journies and trials......this is much more than a book about clarvoyance.....it is a validation that our loved ones are NOT DEAD........they are just on a different plane and are extremely aware of everything going on in our earthly life.....This book is is most definitely a gift of understanding, replete with actual experiences......deep emotion and true to life stories blended with her incredible Irish humor and lovable wit!! How do I know all of this???? I watched "the little girl in the window" grow up to be a most astonishing and believable messenger of "Heaven Speak" I have ever witnessed.....
