I worked with Jared over 2 years ago. I've been playing the game for a long time, but never really excelled at it. I was a winner, but I had major, major tilt problems. I mean... I had sessions where I would sit and lose 40 buyins in a straight 12-24 hr session. It was so stressful and emotionally draining for me because poker was my dream and I didn't want to keep working a crappy desk job. I was really putting myself through hell.

Out of desperation, I tried everything, read numerous books, posts, and all kinds of self-help stuff, but never really made any progress with my tilting issues.

In my looking for things to try, I stumbled across Jared's coaching services. I read his reviews, and liked the things he was talking about so I got on his wait list. This was it for me, if he couldn't help me, I was quiting poker.

Well... I didn't quit poker. In fact since I worked with him, I haven't had a real job in 2 years. Sessions with him were amazing. I've been a big fan of his material ever since.

When his book was available for pre-order, I would be surprised if I wasn't the first one to order the book. Needless to say, I was expecting a lot.. but I didn't expect to get a lot from EVERY single page. I mean, when I first got it I would randomly open a page and would be able to relate to the topic on a deep level.

This book is extremely important for my poker career.

Literally, every page has something I can relate to and need to improve on. How many poker books can you say that about? Most of the time I buy a book, I pick up one or two plays, or one or two different ways to view things or it just reinforces what you already know and we still say it was worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please do not buy this book June 10, 2011

A complete treatise on the correct way to think for every aspect of the game.

Rather than just being a book you can read and know everything, this gives you the tools to work by yourself on yourself to be able to continually improve including aspects such as motivation to learn.

In short, now that I have it, I want no one else to get it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and relevant September 6, 2012

Tmgop is everything you could want from such a book. Proven strategies, superior experience, interesting case studies and extremely thorough. The most impressive feature in my opinion is the relevance of EVERYTHING in the book to other (and most) facets of life. You will learn and benefit so much, well worth the pricetag. And it is a must read for every player, regardless of your mental game strength - i very rarely tilt but still found the book incredibly insightful and helpful. You will not be skipping chapters (as i thought i might). Thankyou Jared.

5.0 out of 5 stars Changed my mindset and profit July 8, 2011

This is by far one of the best Poker books I have ever read and definitely the best regarding emotional control. I always considered myself a profitable player, but the emotional swings began taking a toll after several months of being a professional. After reading this book, I see the mental and emotional part of the game in a whole different light. I strongly recommend every serious poker player read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Mental Game = Stronger Poker Game June 8, 2011
Format:Paperback
After reading this book, I now easily see how losing players continue to be losing players. They have a good skill set poker wise but they are "Mental Game Fish". Yes, they can build a big stack quickly but by having a weak Mental Game they quickly losing all their chips. So why not have an edge on my opponents, why not worker harder and be strong mentally, this book has definitely has put me in line for success & closer to reaching my goals. Big Thanks to Jared & Barry for writing this book. You helped me and it will certainly help others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Improve your poker game and your life! October 29, 2011
By eurodp
Format:Paperback
Let me start off by saying I have read many self-help psychology books before this and I think this is one of the best I have read and since it is pretty much the only one in poker this is a must read if you play poker.

The book is very detailed, specific, easy to understand, and provides a very good strategy for approaching the mental game. You can use the majority of the strategies outside of poker as well. I only wish I could have learned these things sooner in life but school or parents don't teach us things like this. This book teaches you about learning(I have a Bachelor's in Finance that I got a year and a half ago and all I know about learning is how to study a few days before an exam...if that), how learning ties into your goals, and how things like fear, confidence, motivation and tilt play their role in all of it. This book will help you understand yourself better not only at the poker table but off of it as well. The questions in the back of the book are excellent for figuring things out and the Mental Hand History exercise is very helpful.

I do have a disclaimer - be prepared to really work at this book. Reading/new awareness is maybe 50% of it but really putting in the work to write and do the injecting logic/resolution strategies with your issues is where you'll really see progress. I suggest buying a notebook!

If a book like this doesn't help you or doesn't help as much as you want it to you might need to consult a therapist as your past issues that affect your present might be too much to figure out on your own.

Good luck!
