Andrew's comic-tragic book about a South Beach kind of wacky detective novel was just that, very novel. I enjoyed the thrill of this page turner, always waiting to see what was going to happen next. His clever and oh so local images bring a smile to my face. He describes the landscapes and the people in his biting but humorous way. Overall the book was jolly and fun to read and I could see it going on to more adventures. Bravo!

This was probably the worst nook I have read in a long time. The story line was ok it could have been a good book if the main character was at al likeable. I just really disliked this book. I don't know what else to say it was just awful. I would not advise anyone to spend money on this.

The book is very entertaining. Too bad so many missing pages occurred to throw off the story. About every 3 chapters, a page is blank and you lose the drift of the story. This is the first book that has happened to since I have used my Fire. Hope everyone else has a better experience.

The Meter Maid Murders was interesting and I read it in just a few days but it wasn't one of the best mysteries I've read. I enjoyed reading about the different meals the detective had. It was kind of dumb why the others in the police dept. couldn't figure out what the detective knew.

Reasonably good satire,

The Meter Maid Murders is classic satire. The author panders to the dislike all motorists feel for distributors of parking tickets, paints the meter maids and men as the lowest of the low, introduces us to a drop-dead gorgeous police detective with the mental capacity of a fried clam, a talented television news investigator, and lets it run from there. There are no real surprises other than the person of the murderer (we are given the name a bit too early) so the book is essentially based on how things happen rather than on what happens or why. As such, it's a bit longish for the amount of content delivered.

The author reminds me of Donald E. Westlake and that is a very good thing. The humor can be dark at times but that is what makes it worth the time to read. Yes, who doesn't want kill a meter maid or two every so often or get even with the tow truck company. Enjoy the Fantasy and satire of in the story as revenage is taken South Beach. It is a shame that more of Westlake's works aren't avaible on kindle, at least now I have Andrew Delaplaine works to look forward too.

I'm halfway through this book, and every page has been so entertaining that I have to write a review (bleary-eyed from staying up half the night reading it). From descriptions of the characters and locale to not-so-subtle political satire, this book keeps the reader entertained. I love mystery and detective novels but usually avoid those involving gruesome serial killings, but this author's use of tongue-in-cheek humor elevates the story above reality, allowing the reader to enjoy the plot without believing that the events could actually occur. And the proofreading and editing of the book are evident--halfway through the book, I've only encountered one typographical error (the final e dropped from a name). To the author: thank you for sharing your brilliant wit!

This is the first book I've read by this author... Perhaps my wit is dull, but I just didn't find this 'comic' at all. Sure, there were funny names that aptly described the characters, a few descriptions that made me smile, but it didn't make me laugh. Not even once. The constant talk about food - what Bricker was drinking, where he was eating, what he ordered gave me the impression that the author had the munchies bad. Every time he ate, I found myself wishing we could just move on with the STORY. This was no page turner for me. I probably wouldn't have finished it, except that I guessed early on who the killer was and wanted to see if I was correct. Also, once the killer was revealed, it took far to long to wrap up the story. Could've been worse, though.

The main character is very unlikable in this book. He acts like the worst stereotypes of an adolescent boy, and unfortunately not in a funny way. Even worse, this seems to be coming from the author's viewpoint. Descriptions of women are crude, and calling women ugly and fat is apparently supposed to be hilarious. This is the first book I've read in a long time that I won't finish. The despair of sharing the thoughts of someone who thinks like this is much stronger than caring about the story. Was he redeemed in the end? Not worth the slog through the meanness to find out.
