I am sometimes wary of buying music from posthumous musicians I love. "Why didn't he release it while he was alive"? Well this is definitely not the case. This is some of the best Levon I have ever heard. The Midnight Ramble music is so good I could kick myself for never making the journey to his barn. If you love Levon, you will love his album.

What a treat! This release sounds fantastic! Don't expect the same production as on a studio album. The mix is a bit rawer which, to my ears, gives the music great intimate feel. I imagine it sounds much like it would if I had attended one of the midnight rambles.

The music is outstanding with great horn arrangements. It was recorded on various dates between 2005-2009. Levon's drumming on these recordings are phenomenal. I don't think I have ever enjoyed his style as much as on this one. He also handles the lead vocals on four tracks with his road worn-but-still-great voice. The band is also on fire and all instruments are very clear in the mix.

The song selection is also great. From Sam Cooke to Carl Perkins to Bob Dylan. It all flows naturally from beginning to end.

Highly recommended!

Nice selection of blusey folk-rock and nicely recorded. Some very well-done Larry Campbell and Jimmy Vivino guitar work -- overall an enjoyable listen and very nicely recorded by Justing Guip considering there were all live peformances in Levon's 'barn' on Plochman Lane, Woodstock. My one gripe is that the liner notes are insufficient to know who's doing what (sad since all the the prior releases were well documented) and, even worse, NONE of the metadata is on the disk so your MP3 player will be clueless as to who/when/tack-ttiles, etc. and even if you laborously type it all into Media Player first, only players that index on file data (vs the metadata that most all use) will reflect what you enetered -- truly a shame to release ANY CD in this day and age lacking such information !! As an example, your SANSA player will catalog it as UNKNOWN ARTIST with NO TRACK TITLES (even tho you typed them all in anyway), however very basic players (like you Samsung TV) that just use file date WILL reflect what you typed in -- but you still have to type it al in. Unforgiveable!
My rating reflects the music only -- if I was rating these other considerations it would be ONE STAR!

This one really rocks, folks!
The four tracks that Levon sings and drums rock like the best tracks of The Band. His drumming swings like it always has except now the groove is a little tighter but still funky.
The disc opener 'Stuff you gotta watch' swings and sways and the funky drumming reminds me of 'Don't do it!'. My favorite is 'One more shot' from the 'Legend of Jesse James' album which is the best Levon Helm solo material of all. Followed by ' Ramble at the Ryman.' Then the newest and bestest is The Midnight Ramble Sessions, Vol. 3.'

If you never had the chance to see LevonHelm live this is as good as it gets. Great song choices. The band is just tight enough to not let the songs get away from them but still allow room to move. Levon's voice not what it once was but still brings power to his vocals. The CD leaves me wanting more.
