Book Description

It's been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.

Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.

Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect. Only, there’s a complication to their instant feelings for one another – Will, Tru’s boyfriend of two years.

Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can't refuse - travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake.

Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the worlds most notorious womanizer?

1.0 out of 5 stars Readers deserve BETTER. October 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I *hate* giving a one star review, I truly do. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, and just as more than 100 people love this book, the few of us who don't are allowed to at least explain why we didn't.

There are *SPOILERS* in the review.

Grammar:
I read the free sample, and at first I was intrigued by the characters but repelled by the grammar and typos. By the time I had finished the sample, I was so impressed by the typos that I felt compelled to buy the book and started highlighting them. Started counting for this review, stopped when I got to 100, and that doesn't include the apostrophes - they are almost 100% reversed for possessives/plurals. Even for self-publishing, which is for some reason held to a lower standard, that's just abysmal; especially since she credits several beta readers/editors helping her along the way.

Some of the worst offenses -
"What he is or isn't is, is of no relevance." .... what?
"I'd just moved to the states from the England." lmao
"...in my whole entire twenty-six years on this plant." Seriously?
"If he hadn't of got there..." - Unforgivable

You are charging for this - invest in a REAL editor. Have the book edited and update the Amazon file. I would change my rating if the effort were actually expended to do so.

Plot points I hated:
1) Both of them are obnoxiously co-dependent.
2) SHE is in a long term relationship, and not only cheats on her boyfriend (in a bathroom, while he's there) but also lies to his face about it.
3) Half the book is her whining about how guilty she feels. Make up your mind!
3) Her boyfriend is NOT a jerk or an addict, doesn't cheat...actually, he should be the love interest.
4) Rock star is a man-child who manipulates her and the situation by any means available to get his way.

***BIG CONFLICT SPOILERS***
Our "hero" is a former addict who promises our "shero" that she's enough to keep him straight - guess what happens. While he's high, he sees pictures of her talking to the ex and flips his lid, accusing her of cheating. She confronts him about the drug use and storms out, only to pathetically come back in the morning thinking they can work things out. She finds his room trashed and him in bed (wasted) with another woman (albeit they both have underwear on). She sobs and sobs and he begs and pleads, saying he never touched the girl (like he would remember?) and she storms out again.
Then after a few days of being clean, he sings "Hurt" and she realizes it's a suicide warning - umm, hello emotional blackmail? Oh yeah, that's totally hot. Finally she flakes out completely, suddenly announcing she can't handle the stress of life in the public eye. Then he says "Marry me" and she jumps his bones in a dressing room.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! August 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I LOVED The Mighty Storm! My recommendation is to go buy this, set yourself up for hours of uninterrupted reading and immerse yourself in this book.
I read TMS as part of a book club and I was counting the days till it came out. I'm happy to say I was not disappointed. It was such a great read that I really would like to re-read it again and soon.

Jake is the consummate bad boy rock star, strong, sexy, talented in more ways than one ;) drop dead gorgeous, charming, romantic, cheeky, vulnerable, arrogant and oh, did I mention he is good looking? He is a totally alpha male with everyone falling at this feet, but behind the scenes he has a troubled past, inner demons to fight and he still holds a vision and memory of a childhood best friend, the one person that made him feel "normal and sane".

Tru is a music journalist for a fashion magazine. Music has been her life and sharing her passion with Jake Wethers was a huge part of her childhood. Tru and Jake grew up together until his family moved away and they lost contact. They shared so much more than just their passion for music, and now she has the opportunity of seeing him again after 12 years.
Tru has a boyfriend now, Will, whom she loves dearly, but this impending meeting with Jake has her anxious and wary.
In her own words
"My heart broke for a long time over Jake Wethers.
Well, if I'm being honest, I don't think it actually ever really healed."
So much has happened in each of their lives that they wonder if the connection is still as strong, although each one is unaware of how the other person feels and how deep those feelings go. Tru doesn't really admit the depth of her feelings for Jake to herself until he is right in front of her.
"..standing across the room from me is Jake.
My heart lurches out of my chest, jumps across the room and whams straight into him.
I feel lost...........
And he just looks so painstakingly beautiful."

"...looking at him here, now, I know why I was so scared.
I was afraid that seeing him again after all this time would cause my old feelings to resurface."
What does she do about them? What about Will?

Tru and Jake embark on a journey that will make you feel all the emotion that has been bottled up by both of them for so long, and the result is an angsty read that held me from beginning to end. At different times as I was reading this, I had tears burning my eyes, my heart was beating erratically, I was holding my breath, I was feeling apprehensive, heartbroken, torn between the characters, and I was totally immersed in their intense relationship. In their frailty we get to experience the emotions we feel and the consequences of our actions (good and bad) when we are overtaken by feelings that are way beyond our control. I also loved all of the other characters in the book and they each contributed beautifully to the whole story. I loved that these characters were believable and I felt I was right there with them.

Samantha has said that there will be a sequel out early next year and it will definitely be on my TBR list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Men want to be him, women want to screw him ... August 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'll be honest here...I don't even know where to begin with this one! I LOVED me some Jake Wethers! Well, I always love a good rock star book, but Samantha Towle has really rocked my world with TMS. I feel like I am riding a Jake Wethers high, and I don't want to it's impossible to come down. I really want to break shatter my rule about spoilers....but, I won't. There is so much in this book to love... funny, witty, angst, romance, and an ending that leaves you wanting more!

This is the story of a secret love that spans more than a decade, shared between two people with neither knowing of one's love for the other. The story is told in Tru's point of view, but I really felt like I was actually listening to Tru tell her story to me personally.

This is my first experience with a Samantha Towle book, but it won't be my last! She has secured a hold on me with TMS, and I don't want her to let go. She describes my feelings about TMS perfectly through her words about Jake.

"I'm so totally mesmerized by him. And so totally in lust with him. And so totally screwed."

Yes, I am totally screwed, because I have to wait on the sequel! This book is so emotionally gripping, you can't put it down. There are so many OMG moments and angst that are perfectly complemented by a witty dialogue. This book gave me the message to never hesitate to go after what I want; I just might get it! What you can expect from TMS - an emotionally gripping read that will have you laughing, tingling, and swooning. What you get is all that plus a Jake special performance at the end. (Read it; you will find out what I mean.) I give this book 5 stars and recommend for all adults who have ever had a first love...and all those who love a little bad boy with their rock and roll.

P.S. Anytime Jake would like to make up for years of MY missed birthdays....I'm game!
