About the Author

Dr. Douglass reveals medical truths, and deceptions, often at risk of being labeled heretical. He is consumed by a passion for living a long healthy life, and wants his readers to share that passion. Their health and well-being comes first. He is anti-dogmatic, and unwavering in his dedication to improve the quality of life of his readers.

He has been called "the conscience of modern medicine," a "medical maverick," and has been voted "Doctor of the Year" by the National Health Federation. His medical experiences are far reaching-from battling malaria in Central America - to fighting deadly epidemics at his own health clinic in Africa - to flying with U.S. Navy crews as a flight surgeon - to working for 10 years in emergency medicine in the United States.

This dedicated physician has repeatedly gone far beyond the call of duty in his work to spread the truth about alternative therapies. For a full year, he endured economic and physical hardship to work with physicians at the Pasteur Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, where advanced research on photoluminescence was being conducted. These learning experiences, not to mention his keen storytelling ability and wit, make Dr. Douglass' newsletters (Daily Dose and Real Health) and all of his books uniquely interesting and fun to read. He shares his no-frills, no-bull approach to health care, often amazing his readers by telling them to ignore many widely-hyped good-health practices (like staying away from red meat, avoiding coffee, and eating like a bird), and start living again by eating REAL food, taking some inexpensive supplements, and doing the pleasurable things that make life livable.

Readers of Dr. Douglass´ books get all this, plus they learn how to burn fat, prevent cancer, boost libido, and so much more. And, Dr. Douglass is not afraid to challenge the latest studies that come out, and share the real story with his readers. He has led a colorful, rebellious, and crusading life! Not many physicians would dare put their professional reputations on the line as many times as this courageous healer has. A vocal opponent of "business-as-usual" medicine, Dr. Douglass has championed patients' rights and physician commitment to wellness throughout his career.

Dr. Douglass comes from a distinguished family of physicians. He is the fourth generation Douglass to practice medicine, and his son is also a physician. Dr. Douglass graduated from the University of Rochester, the Miami School of Medicine, and the Naval School of Aviation and Space Medicine.

I had been trying to buy this book for years, sometimes finding a copy but the asking price being over $100. I am so glad it has been republished. Being a conservative I usually frown on corporate and governmental conspiracy notions, but this book has opened my eyes to both. What the health bureaucrats and the dairy industry did to Raw Certified Milk was nothing short of a travesty on the health of this nation. It proves that the general public will always give up freedom due to fear. This is a tactic common in Communist and socialist countries and it is a shame that it is practiced here as well. (The Patriot act is another example of freedoms lost in an instant due to fear induced by the government). Will the tremendous benefits of Raw Milk ever be known again? The odds unfortunately are against it. I read Dirk Van Loon's 'The Family Cow' years ago and then bought a Jersey cow and milked her. Even though I nearly got Carpal-Tunnel syndrome doing it by hand, it was a great experience. We now have more land and are looking forward to buying another milk cow (with a machine milker this time). Armed with the knowledge of how to produce clean fresh REAL milk via Dr Douglass's book, my family will be able to shed the grocery store garbage that carries the name of milk today.

I used to love milk. In high school, I drank half a gallon a day. And this laid the foundation for a health crisis. In my 30's, I developed severe lactose intolerance. While attending a 12-week holistic health class, taught by someone with the anti-establishment credentials of Dr. Douglas, I discovered why. Modern processing kills all the natural enzymes found in milk that allow the body to process milk. This forces your body to deplete its own store of enzynes. This eventually results in lactose intolerance. When I drank RAW milk, which still contains these enzymes, I was fine. I searched for this book for years without luck. I am so glad to see it back in print. Doctors who search for the truth, rely on natural cures, and practice preventative medicine are often persecuted in this Country. I take my hat off to Dr. Douglas. If you are lactose intolerant, drink some raw milk and you will see the difference. Over the years, my body has healed enough so that I can eat milk products in moderation, but I still stay away from milk. I have learned my lesson.

This book is an eye opener!!! We are so misled by our government. This is a book we should all read. It is excellent. I have tried some of the suggestions and I feel better than I have in years. (I am 60 years old) And, I certainly wish I had read this sooner. It would have saved me a lot of pain and a lot of dollars.

This highly-readable book discusses the merits of raw milk, along with such related topics as mothers' milk, the eating of meat, and the effect (or, rather, lack thereof) of dietary cholesterol on the human heart. I found Dr. Douglass to be witty, well-informed, and respectful of readers with a wide variety of worldviews (although there is some mild coarse language throughout). This is not an overly scientific book, which may be seen as either a benefit or a downfall, depending on your reason for reading. I only gave it four stars because it is in dire need of proofreading/editing.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who got me started on raw milk. I had been one of those who had believed the hype about unprocessed milk being dirty or harmful to your health. However, people have been drinking milk straight from the cows on their own farms for years without any major illnesses! The author does a great job of telling the history of milk and comparing raw milk to pasturized milk. This book is very comprehensive and quite interesting, although sometimes the author tries to get too humorous on the subject. I have been drinking raw milk for a while now without any health problems. Love the taste! This book is definitely worth reading for anyone interested in health and wellness.

i have always been a staunch believer in pasteurization, especially since i just finished a microbiology class in college.

i grew up drinking 3 or 4 big glasses of milk per day, although now i only drink water because i watch my calories.

my hubby's friend gave us this book a long time ago to read, but i had never gotten around to it until now. my microbiology class piqued my interest in pasteurization --- and also, one of the mom's in my local playgroup was talking about how she was interested in trying raw milk.

i would say the book is very interesting and amusing, although rather corny at times --- and often plain hard to believe. the scientific proof isn't explained very well most of the time. a lot of what the author says just sounds really far-fetched.

still, the book did contain some good-sounding info and sparked food for thought. some parts of it are really gross, though.

i have never really eaten margarine, but i do love chocolate and ice cream --- and this book makes you never want to eat them again!

the author also makes a lot of claims about the cholesterol in milk and meat having no effect -- or even a beneficial effect -- on overall human cholesterol, heart conditions, etc ... he goes on to claim that raw milk can basically cure a million and one diseases.

in general, i am considering giving raw milk a try based on the info in this book ---- they claim certified raw milk comes from cows that are much more strictly monitored and kept much cleaner than milk from 'regular' farms that ends up being pasteurized.

my local health food store just started carrying certified, grass-fed raw milk. when i first saw it i was grossed out and appalled, but after reading this book, i told my hubby he can be the guinea pig and see what he thinks.

the best chapter was on breast feeding with human milk for babies. there was some good info in there.
