Editorial Reviews

For the past decade, Mannie Fresh has been looked upon as one of the foremost sonic innovators of our time. He constructed nearly all of the hits that have come out from Cash Money Records camp such as 'Bling, Bling', 'Back That Thang Up', 'I Need A Hot Girl' & countless others. Fans can look for Mannie Fresh to reach new heights musically on his solo debut. Guest appearances from within & beyond the Cash Money Millionaires family can also be expected. The first blast from the album is 'Real Big.'

You might take a look at this and say does he really need 30 tracks? Well he may not need all 30 tracks but I'm telling you that you'll like every track on here. His lyrics are good and at times humorous on this and his beats are catchy and original. And his guest stars compliment him perfectly, exepct lil wayne who absolutly KILLS it on Waynes take over # 1 and #2. Weezy stepped his game up from Tha Carter which I didn't think he could do. But this cd is very entertaining and is deffinitly worth buying.

Im a real Hip Hop head. But I love all Hip Hop. From Mannie Fresh to Masta Ace. From Talib Kweli to T.I. Jay-Z to Nas....This record is pretty tight for the ride but nothing worth listening to for thought provoktion. Mannie Fresh cant rap if his life depended on it. But his beats are mostly decent to very good.

A little late doing an album review of _The Mind of Mannie Fresh_, but, eh, better late than never. And considering Mr. Fresh's recent departure from CMR, perhaps this review is timely.

I have never been a big fan of most of the artists that have come from Cash Money. No disrespect intended; it's just that thug rap really doesn't reflect my tastes or lifestyle. I can only listen to so many songs about some b***h you're messing with, your desire and skill at being a killer and/or hustler/pimp and of course, what kind of material possessions you have that make everyone else a potential or actualized hater. In the past I had felt that New Orleans Hip Hop was misrepresented on a national and even worldwide scale, as the biggest local labels put out one genre of rap music (the variety of what might be classified as Hip Hop from New Orleans is far more diversified than bounce and gangsta rap). I appreciate and respect the business of doing things independently, especially when a successful formula has been discovered, but if it is not something I'm personally feeling, then chances are I'm not going to support it.

That said, I do feel this album, but not for the majority of reasons other reviewers had written. The beats compliment the lyrical content and the lyrics are oftentimes funny and entertaining as hell, but what I appreciate the most about this project is the satirical social commentary.

Mannie Fresh is a darn funny individual. His use of comedy to address social injustice, games with the opposite gender and our oftentimes unhealthy relationship with materialism is utter genius.

DJ Mannie Fresh has always been the breadmaker in the Big Tymers group and on the Cash Money record label. He made all the beats and came with the wit & humor to offset Baby's horribleness. Mannie Fresh keeps the tradition going on his long awaited solo album "The Mind Of Mannie Fresh". Mannie Fresh definitely gets down on the production tip...his beats are a lot more advanced than in Cash Money's heyday, and he shows that there's still some gas left in the tank. These beats bang! Mannie Fresh also does most of the rapping by himself...and at first I didn't think it would work out, but it does beautifully. Fresh is an entertaining rapper and coupled with his beats, he is more than being a listenable rapper. Of course there are times when you'll be like what the heck, but hey he isn't a real rapper so it is forgiven.

Guests that appear on the album include Lil Wayne, Baby, Lil Mo, Tateeze, David Banner, & Bun B as well as a few others. He makes excellent use of samples on the album, sampling R.Kelly and Keith Sweat as well as Al B. Sure's - Nite & Day. How We Ride with Bun B & David Banner is ABSOLUTELY the BEST SONG on the album and is one of the top songs of the year...top 5 easily. That song is greatness. Not Tonight, Lady Lady, Wayne's Takeover I & II, Chubby Boy, Go With Me, Real Big, Fight Song, Shake That A$$ are all great songs. As A matter of fact this album is one of the best Producer albums I have heard...right up there with Timbaland - Welcome To Our World.

The only thing to bring this album down is the skits...but even the skits are somewhat memorable and they don't break up the pace of the album.

DJ Mannie Fresh has outdone himself with this one. It's one of the best Cash Money releases ever and one of the best albums of the year. Cash Money has had a great year with this, The Carter, and Juve the Great. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

The Cash Money beats are going a little bit old school wit what they use to do, with the new. Overrall result, best beats i've heard. Mannie's flow has gotten better over the years, a while back lots of people from the N.O. area thought neither he or Baby could rap. Thing's change and i'd say this is the best album from the south in a good while beside Lil Wayne's, Tha Carter. Just get the cd, go buy it. Maybe only two songs I didn't like and that differs between people. All the skits are funny and he even got Lil Wayne to spit twice on two tracks for some diversity.
