Book Description

Miracles are happening.
Pray to God they stop.

In the dead of winter, on a highway in Quebec, a man crashes his car and survives. In New York, a homeless person is run over by a bus and lives. In Tokyo, a teenager jumps off a high rise building and fails in taking her own life. All over the world, miracles like these transpire, and people breathe a sigh of relief.

But for the next week, some people will begin to suspect a terrible truth. A handful will even search for it. One man will find it.

And in seven days, all hell will break loose.

(A tale of horror. Graphic violence and language.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful discovery! June 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Blackmore's book emphasizes what makes me so excited about the advent of ebooks. Here's a superbly written suspense story by a writer that I feel privileged to discover thanks to the accessibility and affordability of ebooks. It reminded me of Stephen King's "Bachman" books, where the suspense story also enfolds some pensive themes about life and death, and doesn't shy away from humor and more human qualities in the characters. On these counts, The Missing Boatman doesn't disappoint. Like another reviewer noted, I did find the gore a little heavy early on for my tastes, but that quickly takes a back seat to the rest of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! I'm actually surprised how much I liked it!! June 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I didn't think this was "my kind of book." But I couldn't wait to see how it ended! The beginning set-up of the novel is quite gory in spots (Personal tip for the squeamish: Skim the fight scenes; just find out who is fighting, who wins and who loses! No need to keep count of broken bones.) but humor shines through in other parts of the book. Does anyone NOT come to really LIKE the Boatman? I don't think so. By the end of the book, you know so much more about him that you have to love the old cuss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story March 28, 2012

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This story has a great concept about death, pain, luck, fear...and others. As already mentioned, it can tend to be quite violent and gory, but is fully understood why as the story moves along. I felt as though there were sections in the storyline that could have been left out without affecting the story as a whole. Some places tended to be boring and had me wondering when it was going to end. Some sections left me wondering why it was even part of the story, for it added nothing to it in order to understand the gist of what the author was trying to get across.

I felt as though the profanity was way overused and unnecessary. It added nothing to the plot of the story, even though it was used as part of the character building. Even so, if one does not like the use of the "F" word, this will not be the book for you, for it's used in every way thinkable and in various verbal context. For me, the profanity was very distracting and added nothing to the premise of the story itself. The story can be understood without all the swearing.

This author is very good and this is another in an excellent line of presentations. I have liked all of his books. Some better than others, but all worth the expense and time.
