Editorial Reviews

THE MISTRESS AFFAIR was my second book by Kate Adair, but it is sure not to be my last. Kate Adair is an exceptional writer that took this story and wrapped me right up in it. I never wanted this one to end! Top pick --Kristal Gorman, Romance Reader at Heart

These two characters weren't the type to let their relationship flounder, and for that reason, I consider The Mistress Affair a very good contemporary romance. -- Tara Black, The Romance Studio

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok read, but characters didn't ring true. January 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
*Spoilers Throughout*

Ben is 6 years old and has a hole in his heart that just might kill him if his mom, Kate, can't get 20k to pay for the operation. She goes to Alex, a distant relative, to ask to borrow the money. He says no, but she can earn it by one night on her back. She tells him where he can shove his offer until Ben gets worse and they can't afford to wait any longer. After her "date" with Alex he calls her looking for another and she obviously tells him where he can go, but the man will not take no for an answer.

I have to start by saying that despite the cover this book reads very much like a harlequin and is not erotic like the cover would lead you to believe, a bit spicy but that's all.

The problem I have with the book is that the author isn't true to the characters of Alex and Kate. Kate would do just about anything for her son, Ben. She literally whored herself to save his life, yet she lets Alex hurt and ignore her child. Not only that but because of her massive trust issues there is no way that she would have taken him back at the end. We are supposed to believe that Alex is a nice guy but once he gets Kate to accept him he treats her like garbage, and lets not forget he turned her into a whore, but he is supposed to still be a nice guy.

What really annoyed me towards the middle is that the idea that she whored herself to him was never fully developed. What he did was horribly wrong, to take advantage of a desperate woman like that, yet they never really take about the issue they just skirt around it and have sex a 2nd time the same day the discuss it. That didn't ring true to me at all. Plus, in good old harlequin fashion Alex has to mess up again at the end and be forgiven to make things interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Liked It **Some Slight Spoilers** February 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The storyline made for interesting reading, I don't come across this type of plot on a regular basis. I took no offense as to the gist of the story afterall I'm of the opinion a good mother would do what she had to do for her children so I wasn't shocked nor did I hold it against Katie. What I did dislike was the fact that Alex never investigated Kate before offering her any money he immediately distrusted her, it would have saved a lot of ill feelings but then we wouldn't have had a good plot had he done so. I felt the story was a good one the characters were mostly likeable (except Alex's mother). My only objection and it's a strong one is that there was never any closure as to how Uncle Alex tied in with Kate's mother (his cousin). I wondered at one point whether my download was missing a chunk that gave this information away. If this wasn't addressed it could have been so much better I also felt that Alex's mother should have stirred the pot a bit giving the reader a bit more angst than there really was. In closing I thought it was a good plot, well written and I would have paid $4 and not felt cheated so getting this for free was a plus. Happy Reading Enjoy.

Kate and Alex story is riddle with Angst and misunderstanding by design. It will make you want to hurt him at times and smack her at others but over all is a good read.

3.0 out of 5 stars good plot September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The plot was interesting but it turned out to be an average read for this type of novel - I liked it but the ending was poorly executed - I feel the Kate Silver ran out of ideas, it was anti-climatic.
But I would still read her again as I liked her writing style - it was easy
