Editorial Reviews

Review

[Review of previous edition:] Tells you in simple terms which beater or attachment to use and when. I did have a problem with the book, though: So many recipes, so little time. (Jeannie Kadner Chicago Heights Star 2007-03-01)

[Review of previous edition:] Will show home cooks how to expand their repertoire of recipes without having to spend more time in the kitchen. (Trenton Trentonian 2005-10-19)

I had read the reviews on the previous edition of this publication. I am so glad that I waited to receive this newest edition. The photos are very clear, detailing even the differences between mixers (tilt head models are shown in blue and bowl lift models are shown in red). There is a new section in the center of the book displaying several of the dishes and creations as they should look (and they look delicious). The recipes are wonderful! I really love that they include the attachment needed at the top of each recipe and the speeds at which to use them during every stage of the recipe. This book is going to change how I use my KitchenAid.

Photos are outstanding. I got a KictenAid Artisan and knew I was in trouble. How do you adapt tried and try recipes to relying on a machine? This book is it. Photos are all about how to best use the umpteen attachments for the mixer. I want the ice cream maker! I want the meat grinder! It looks so easy. Back to reality. I’m 67, like to cook. Spouse also cooks. 50-50. OK, we have something in common. The book: if you have made bread for a long time then have a real mixer, the problem of adapting your hand methods of really working dough with suddenly having a machine that can do the same work faster takes a leap of faith. My pizza, Dim Sum, cinnamon rolls and bread are easier thanks to this book.

This third edition of The Mixer Bible will not only teach you the basics that stand up mixers can perform in the kitchen but also how to make full use of your equipment by knowing how to utilize all the different attachments. If your current mixing skills are limited to cakes and baked, The Mixer Bible will give you the versatility to do everything from multi-grain breads and rabbit sausages to centerpiece Beef Wellington and Pasta dishes as well as souffles and even ice cream for the dessert course using your kitchen mixer. Good variety of easy to follow recipes, many of which have helpful tips included in a sidebar, and a very useful section showing photographic illustrations about making the most of your mixer attachments. If you don't know what to give a family member, friend or even yourself for Christmas this year, consider a new mixer along with a copy of the third edition of The Mixer Bible!

OK all of the recipes in this book do NOT use a mixer. However the recipes that do have a shaded bara t the top indicating what attachment it uses. Whisk, hook, juicer etc. But this book is better the the "kitchen aid brand books" because those books talk about all their product and focus on their food processor. This one focuses on cooking and also the mixer. The section on all the other attachment you csn get is awesome. Shws both the tilt head and raised bwl style of kitchen aid mixer and how to attach them.

But many of the recipes themselves are ones I have searched for years for.
They have everything from soup to bread to different ethnic dishes I only remember having my grand mom making. It has a little of everything Italian, German, polish, american, etc etc they even have a recipie for gnocchi.
The hints they give with some of the recipies are priceless. Like boiling potatoes with skin on then peeling if making gnocchi...keeps potatoes from absorbing water so the. End product doesn't fall apart when you pot it in water later. Now I know what I did wrong the 3 times I tried to copy my family recipe.

If you liked, and wore out, your 2005 edition (381 pages) of this cookbook, you will love this 2013 expanded edition (464 pages). It contains the original recipes and adds about 25 more (i.e., gluton-free). And all the potential KitchenAid Mixer attachments are here described and pictured. A color photo section of 16 of the recipe results is included in the book's center. To get more, good results out of your mixer, this is a modest investment.

I was stoked when I got my mixer, but didn't want to be stuck treating it like a big egg beater. So far I've only been happy with everything I've made with this book, and excited with how much I've been able to do with my mixer. It's a pretty damn good cook book.
