Awesome Book!,

This review is from: Spellsinger: The Moment of the Magician - Book #4 (Mass Market Paperback)
Upon randomly picking up a copy of the 'Spellsinger's Scherzo,' I was instantly thrust into the 4th book of the Spellsinger series. (And yes, since then I have read all 8 of Alan Dean Foster's journeys into this fantastical world!) This book chronicals the further adventures of the Spellsinger Jon-Tom, as he travels with his otter companion Mudge to the distant city of Polastrindu, seeking to meet a mysterious magician who he suspects to be from the planet earth. Filled with humor and direness, lighthearted anecdotes and gripping action, this book, though it was the 4th in the series, grasped my attention as easily as if I had begun at the start of any epic series. A must have for any fantasy fan!

This review is from: The Moment of the Magician. (Paperback)
"The Moment of the Magician" is the fun fourth volume in the Spellsinger adventure about Jon-Tom and colleague Mudge.Back cover of book: "Tropical, friendly, and largely uninhabited" was how Clothahump the wizard had described the swamps of the south. But the warring colonies of tough-talking prairie dogs, to the magical mime-vines, to a mammoth mountain of living muck and a hidden colony of dreaded Plated Folk, Jon-Tom the spellsinger and his otter comrade Mudge find their journey southward full of strong spells and deadly foes. Should they ever reach the city of Quasequa, their mission is to unmask the mysterious new magician, Marcus the Ineluctable. But Marcus' forces seem unlimited, his hunger for power insatiable, and his influence over his followers total. Is the spellsinging magic of Jon-Tom enough to save Quasequa - and all of the wizard's world? End back cover of book. This volume is a good continuation in the exploits of Jon-Tom and Mudge. The reader is introduced to more crazy individuals and a couple surprises. The political philosophies from one world as a part of the current world are amazing and the subtle means by which Jon-Tom upsets the balance create a great read. The ending is quite imaginative, equal with the prior books. As a fan of the classical, rock, and heavy metal music genres, I find the magic Jon-Tom creates with his duar exciting since I believe a well-constructed song can affect people with its intensity and power in a primal aspect. Thank you.

This review is from: The Moment Of The Magician (A Spellsinger Adventure) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a huge fan of Alan Dean Foster and particularly the Spellsinger series. The Moment Of The Magician turned out to be a hard book to find in the secondhand shops in my hometown Cairns in Queensland, Australia. So to finally get it at Amazon at a ridiculously low price was a real boon to me. Although several reviewers seem to have some reservations about the Spellsinger series I'm not among them. Apart from the final book Chorus Skating, which suffers from an incredibly slow beginning, none of the books have really disappointed me. I enjoy the insane things the characters do in these books and I don't mind the episodic nature of them or the fact that talking animals are among the main characters. That just reminds me of storytelling time from my childhood. Good on ya, Alan! So to all those whingers out there, you don't know a good thing when you see one. Stop being so po-faced and enjoy the insanity and bedlam. I can get serious on the news.
