Product Description

Established in 1778, The Gazette is one of Canada's oldest and most respected newspapers. It was originally published in French, then in English, and in 1822 it became an English-language daily. It is the only major English-language daily in the predominantly French-speaking province of Quebec. The Gazette is a valuable source of current information on national and international issues, as well as on the local scene in Montreal, the second largest city in Canada.

The Kindle Edition of the Montreal Gazette contains articles found in the print edition, but will not include some images and tables. Also, some features such as the crossword puzzle, box scores and classifieds are not currently available. For your convenience, issues are automatically delivered wirelessly to your Kindle starting at 5:15 AM Montreal local time.

disappointing January 19, 2010
I recently purchased a Kindle 2, which I love. However, the Montreal Gazette on Kindle is a huge disappointment. As is stated above, there are no photos or tables, which means that the sports section is almost a total loss -- I mean, does anyone actually read Jack Todd? what a windbag. I look at the section to see the standings and schedules, mostly, not to read Todd's judgmental, opinionated rants about who's cheating or not fully committed to the sport, etc.

Maybe whoever purchases the Gazette will get the digital edition up to snuff. It sure isn't there yet, and, with the extra charge imposed on content sent to Canadian Kindle owners, it winds up being entirely too expensive. How is it that Montreal residents have to pay extra to get their home newspaper delivered to their Kindles?

I was looking forward to dropping the print edition and the paper waste involved. I'll just have to wait, I guess.

It's really easy to read on the Kindle. They usually have one story with a photo. But, no big deal. What I do really miss is the Aislin cartoon. Now come on, if you can include the Obituaries, you can at least try and get Aislin's political cartoons included. But, overall it's okay. It can use some improvements.

Update: I subscribed to the kindle edition for about 6 months. I have cut the subscription at this point. I really do love reading on the kindle. But, I found that the printed version of the Montreal Gazette was better. Too many things missing in the kindle version that were important to me. I guess if I was living outside of the metro Montreal area, and getting the printed version of the paper was a problem, I would certainly have stuck with the kindle version. But that is not my situation.

Why would you? July 3, 2010
At $13.99 a month it is almost double what I pay for the printed edition which gives me on-line access to their electronic version, which has photos and video content. Once the Gazette upgrades their Kindle content I may consider it.
