The first menstrual cup I had heard of was the Diva Cup, in an ad in the back of a magazine....I had no clue what one was, so I started doing my research on various sites. So if you have no idea what one is, it's a flexible plastic cup that suctions around the base of your cervix to catch your menstrual flow (and no, it absolutely doesn't hurt if you put it in right, I honestly cannot feel mine unless it gets full!). I'm about to go into detail, so don't continue to read this review if you don't want to hear about it. I had an average flow period until I had my 3 children, and since my last one (4 years ago), my period lasts 7-8 days, with my first 3 days being so heavy that I fill a super-plus tampon and an overnight pad in about an hour, sometimes less than (and yes, I have seen 3 different doctors, all of which swear to me that this is "normal"). Anyhow, this gets to be very expensive; I just didn't know there was anything else out there before. So, back to my online research, I looked at the Diva Cup, which looks as though it would work just as well, and found a lot of reviews saying that it was uncomfortable to use and that the Moon Cup "fit" a lot better, so that is the one I ended up ordering. I have now used it for 3 months, and it really is all that it promises to be! Okay, exempting the first 3 days of my period; but in my mind that is not a "normal" flow. My first 3 days I still wear overnight pads...but get this: as long as I empty my Moon Cup about every 30 minutes, I only go through about 1 pad per day. The rest of my period is about an average period (as per my sister and friends and what my period was prior to children), and I only have to empty the cup every 1-2 hours. They come with instructions for inserting the cup, but really, every body is different, and you can easily figure out the best way to insert it for you. You can swim with it, you can wear a bikini without it showing... I feel a lot more freedom. It's nice not to have to carry around a purse packed full of pads and tampons, and it's nice not to have to spend all that money every month! All in all, I would definitely recommend this product!
February 18, 2010: The MoonCup is a very eco-friendly (and pocket-friendly) product! I still have not encountered any issues with it, and now that I am more accustomed to using it, I rarely use pads--just as a precaution when I won't have access to bathroom facilities (like on a car trip). I haven't had to buy a new package of pads since I purchased my MoonCup... I still definitely recommend this product!

Moon Cup vs Diva Cup,

I bought both the Moon Cup and the Diva Cup for comparison. Both performed the same once inserted. The only difference is that I found the Moon Cup difficult to remove. Although the stem is longer in the Moon Cup, there is no traction on the stem or cup thus making it more challenging to remove. The Diva Cup has "ribs" on the stem and the bottom of the cup allowing better grip for removal.

My foray into the world of menstrual cups began six years ago when I bought the rubber Keeper from a Canadian website that shipped it to me in NYC. It was love at first cycle, and after five years of faithful use I found the stem of my Keeper broke off during normal cleaning. When I first bought my Keeper I read that diliuted tea tree oil was good at keeping it clean and think this was actually a bit harsh and may have stretched the rubber and led to My Keeper's demise. The websites say the product lasts up to 10 years, but I thought five years was quite a good run regardless.
So I was on the search last year for a replacement, and when I saw similar silicone version I thought it would be just the thing to get the full ten year run out of the product and the silicone version also looked a bit more sturdy. I first purchased the Diva Cup, and found the stem to be a bit short for me. It made it difficult to remove, and led to a few very frustrating sessions in bathroom stalls. Being a seasoned menstrual cup user I was quite shocked to find that the Diva cup was sometimes impossible to remove in the mornings upon waking, and I would have to walk around a bit and let gravity shift it to a more "southern" position to be able to reach the stem, and remove it. I honestly have no idea if this is relevant but I am a relatively tall (5'10) and maybe the Diva Cup is better suited to a petite women. I then purchased the Moon Cup from the makers of The Keeper and am completely satisfied. I know some women have to trim the stem a little on the Moon Cup, and The Keeper but for my purposes the "fit" is perfect. 100% happy. 2115|R22TD47CYOPMB8;2115|R2F5XAU1688NMW;2115|RGTH7MHCG6MI8;
