Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 3^-5. Rounding out the publisher's series of First Books on the solar system, this volume presents the moon. The discussion includes such topics as legend, superstition, early scientific observations, the moon's phases and eclipses, the gravitational affects of the earth on the moon and those of the moon on the earth, lunar exploration in manned and unmanned spacecraft, and the lessons learned from moon rocks. Clear, effective illustrations, most in color, appear throughout the book. Appendices include a summary sheet of facts and figures, a glossary, a bibliography, and a list of Web sites. A good resource for science collections. Carolyn Phelan --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The Moon by Carmen Bredeson is a very precise bookon the moon. It tells you the precise history and what people thought of the moon hundreds of years ago and also today. Carmen also talks about some little details about the moon. For example, I learned that the moon causes high and low tides! It is a great book for moon studiers too.

We were required to work with first graders on this topic and were thrilled at the student response. They enjoyed the real pictures.

Happy librarian - needed book found here! Hope the teachers and students are happy with them, too! The only downside is that I must catalogue them myself, but it is worth the time and effort to be able to get materials not available elsewhere at these prices!
