One Message. Two Ways of Saying It. The all-time classic King James Version. Today's best-selling New International Version. Now they come together in the NIV/KJV Parallel Bible The NIV/KJV Parallel Bible does more than combine the poetic beauty and dignity of the King James Versions (KJV) with the readability and accuracy of the best-selling New International Version (NIV). It lets you access the strengths of the two most trusted translation approaches. The word-for-word literal method of the King James Version (KJV) lets you see the English equivalent of the words the original authors of the Bible used. The thought-for-thought approach of the New International Version (NIV) accurately communicates what they meant. The NIV/KJV Parallel Bible sets both methods side by side for you to compare and contrast, gaining insight from the distinctive nuances of each translation. It's an unbeatable format for Bible study. The NIV/KJV Parallel Bible features:

*NIV--Today's best-selling translation, offering a unique combination of scholarly accuracy and easy readability. The thought-for-thought approach to translation allows today's reader to better understand and apply the intended meaning of the original Bible writers. * KJV--The classic, word-for-word translation, beloved by Christians through the centuries for its dignity, poetic language and timeless truths. * NIV and KJV Concordances--Help you find passages you're looking for and study key themes of Scripture. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

One Message. Two Ways of Translating It. Today’s best-selling New International Version. The classic King James Version. Now they come together in the NIV/KJV Parallel Bible, Large Print.

The NIV/KJV Parallel Bible does more than combine the poetic beauty and dignity of the King James Version (KJV) with the readability and accuracy of the best-selling New International Version (NIV). It lets you access their unique strengths: the KJV’s lofty, word-for-word translation that generations of Christians have relied on, and the NIV’s scholarly rendering, based on current knowledge of the most ancient manuscripts, that has set it apart for both clarity and accuracy.

Setting these two classic translations side-by-side, the NIV/KJV Parallel Bible, Large Print allows you to compare and contrast, gaining insight from the distinctive nuances of each translation. It’s an unbeatable format for Bible study.

The NIV/KJV Parallel Bible, Large Print features: * NIV. Today’s most read, most trusted translation, offering a unique combination of scholarly accuracy and easy readability. * KJV. The classic, beloved by Christians through the centuries for its dignity, poetic language and eternal truths. A timeless treasure. * NIV and KJV concordances help you find passages you’re looking for and study key themes of Scripture. * Large Print eliminates eyestrain with large, easy-to-read 9.4 type.

The classic King James Version (KJV), beloved by generations of Bible readers, was first published in England in 1611. Commissioned by King James I, it was the achievement of nearly fifty translators, who over four years revised the Bishop’s Bible in the light of available Greek and Hebrew documents as well as other contemporary European translations. The result was the first Authorized Version, known to Americans as the King James Version. Subsequent editions corrected early misprints, modernized some spellings, and standardized features such as punctuation and italicization. The most famous revisions include the Cambridge edition of 1762, the Oxford edition of 1769 and Dr. F.H.A. Scrivener’s Cambridge Paragraph Bible of 1873. Zondervan uses the Scrivener edition for its KJV Bibles.

The New International Version (NIV) is today’s most popular and most trusted English Bible translation. Since its release in 1973, the NIV has sold over 160 million copies. The goal of the NIV translation team was to produce a contemporary translation whose accuracy, clarity and literary quality would make it ideal for public and private reading, teaching, preaching, memorizing and liturgical use. Today the NIV is accepted by over 60 denominations--more than any other translation--and is supported by a library of reference resources unmatched by any other translation. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I would say it is a good Bible and easy tor read.

I enjoy Parallel Bibles like this one because my preacher preaches from the KJV, but I like to read the NIV for clarification.

This Parallel Bible is very well done. The type is easy to read (non-Large Print version) and the passages are side by side. There is both a KJV and an NIV concordance in the back, which is very useful. I enjoy Parallel Bibles like this one because my preacher preaches from the KJV, but I like to read the NIV for clarification.

The reason I gave it 4 stars are these:

1) The verses are not synced up. Each chapter is started at the same place on a page, but the verses are not next to each other. For instance, the KJV may end the page with verse 29, but the NIV ends with verse 32. So, the parallel verse is actually on the next page. (Not a big deal, but it would have been better to have had them synced.)

2) There are no study notes or references to aid in study. The associated verses listed in the center of the page in many Bibles would have been useful. Also, study notes would have been great as well. This is a slim Bible, despite having 2 complete versions. It would have easily had NIV and KJV study notes at the end of each column. There is no parallel Bible that does this yet.

This bonded-leather parallel KJV-NIV Bible disappoints this reader by not showing Christ's words in red print. My parallel KJV-Amplified Bible does indeed have Christ's words highlighted in red type and is from the very same publisher! I naturally assumed that this KJV-NIV version would do likewise. On a more positive note, the large print is _easy_ on the eyes and the burgundy bonded-leather flexible cover is quite attractive. However, I'm returning this Bible and hope to eventually find a parallel KJV-NIV with the red letter feature.

Just another observation: It is sad that this and almost all Bibles (and most other books) published today no longer have _sewn bindings_ but mere glued-in pages. This makes the books relatively fragile (open it too wide or use it too much and the spine cracks) and greatly shortens their useful life. Some very expensive tomes are bound in this manner (ironically referred to as 'perfect binding' in the book industry).

This is a good quality and impressive looking Bible, and one that I'm sure I will enjoy and use for years. I have received numerous compliments on it, and I highly recommend it. I do have two things, though, that I might point out. If you're looking for a red-letter Bible, this isn't. This is a minor thing to me, so I didn't mark it down because of this. Why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that I bought this Bible sight unseen, and since I'm 57, and plan to use it for quite awhile, I decided to get the large print edition. When I first opened it, my first reaction was: Oops! They sent me the standard print Bible; as the print is what I expected as a standard print edition...meaning, the print is about what you would see if you received a typed letter. I have also had this same comment from several people who have looked at it. But it does say in the front of the Bible that it is large print, and I do have another Bible that does have a little smaller print, so I guess my idea of large print is not the same as the publisher. Anyway, if your eyesight requires large print, you might wish to look at this Bible first before you buy. I know other publishers do have larger print.

I really like this Bible. The layout is great. I like the fact that I can read both versions on the same page. This has helped me with my Bible study a lot. However, I am so disappointed that the words of Christ are NOT in red. It appauls me that words in red are not available for this type of Bible. Why in the world would that be omitted? That's almost like omitting Christ from out lives. What a horrible world this would be without Christ. Also, I wished the Bible had tabs. Add these two items to the Bible and this would be the perfect Bible.

For those who learned in the KJV and memorized some verses in it. I was raised up learning in KJV but some verses I just couldn't understand what was being said so I alternated bibles so this makes it more easy to understand. And sometimes the speaker at church uses KJV so you can easily use that to find out what they are saying while reading the part that makes it easily understood by you. They have an KJV AND NIV concordance in the back but it is not listed in the table of contents.

There are surprisingly few KJV/NIV parallel Bibles out there. I settled on this one after I couldn't find anything better. Each page is split between King James on the left and New International on the right. The individual verses do not line up, but the start of each chapter does, and each page contains the same verses so you never have to look beyond the same page to compare verses.

In the back are 2 concordances for the 2 translations. In the Bible text itself there are no footnotes or references in the KJV, and only a few translation footnotes in the NIV. I would not recommend it as a study Bible. Also, the print is all black; no words of Christ in red.

The book does seem to be high quality, and the hardcover offers good protection.

This Bible is wonderful! I had been planning on purchasing a parallel Bible for a while, but the cost had always been higher than I was willing to pay, given that I already have several single translation Bibles. This parallel Bible was a great price and had only the translations I was seeking (NIV and KJV), so I didn't feel IToday's Parallel Bible was paying extra for translations I wouldn't use. The 'large print' was not quite as large as I was hoping, but it'll work.
