I own many different study Bibles, from the NIV Study Bible, the Scoffield, New Scoffield, Thompson Chain Reference (NIV and KJV), Dake Bible, NIV Topical Study Bible and several Parallel Bibles. While I use them all, my favorite for study and for Scripture reading is either the Nelson Study Bible or the NIVSB. The language is easy to understand and the study notes are fairly comprehensive. The commentary hails from a conservative evangelical theology.

Book binding quality:

The binding is strong and is durable. I've carried this Bible around a lot, and it has held up with no sign of failure. Because of the extensive notes and indices, this Bible is quite a bit thicker than most.

Scripture Page layout:

The Scriptures are laid out in the natural paragraph form, rather than the bullet form based on verse numbering, which is less common in the KJ versions of Scripture. The Scriptures are laid out in two columns with letters guiding the reader to parallel passages and asterisks showing differences in other texts (See below). The bottom of each page contains commentary listed by corresponding verse and the references to other parallel Scripture passages is between the two commentary columns rather than between the Scriptures themselves, like most other Bibles. The words of Christ are in red, and contextual sections have headings that correspond to the outline at the beginning of each book.

Introduction to Books:

Each book of the Bible has a discussion of the author, audience and purpose, date and place of writing, characteristics, sources and a short outline of the book. A timeline of secular historical items that happened at the time of the writing is also provided.

Nelson has released an updated and revised version of the NKJV Study Bible. It has been 10 years since the first edition of this excellent study Bible for all ages! There are more references and word translations in the center column with color coded words. The center column now includes translations/texts for better understanding. The notes seem a little smaller, but that could just be the style of printing. The history/doctrine/denominational charts are deleted. But
other pages have been added showing the teachings of Jesus, List of Jesus' parables, miracles, etc. There is a great subject index and a great large concordance for a study Bible. Each book introduction includes an article "Christ in the Scriptures". There are nearly over 75
maps, 80 charts, 150 Bible Times and Culture, 114 articles on doctrines,
350 revised Word studies, book outlines, timelines, articles on Bible study helps, etc., and much more. Plus, over 15,000 extensive notes!!!
This is one of the very best,if not the best, study Bible on the market. My prayer is Nelson will put this edition in LARGE PRINT. (Also,
revise their BIBLE DICTIONARY AND GIVE US AN Exhaustive Concordance with
Hebrew/Greek dictionary in the NKJV translation.) THIS BIBLE IS GREAT.
THERE IS ALSO A CD-ROM with the same information! GET THIS BIBLE AND GO PLACES for knowledge in God's Word. The bindingpages appears good. A great study Bible in an accurate/modern translation. A WONDERFUL Tool for yourself and as a gift for others. Buy one today! Go first class with
the 2nd Edition of the NKJV Study Bible by Nelson. It's wonderful!!

I am returning the Kindle version as it is too difficult to navigate through. I can get to the Books of the Bible and to Chapters but not Verse without having to page up/down too many times. They need to make it much easier to navigate because it is a Study Bible and therefore has much more information to sift through. My Kindle is new to me so maybe there are tricks I am not aware of but it is just too much trouble and I will keep using my bound version until I can find a good Kindle version.

After I learned that Nelson was going to come out with a large print edition of the Nelson Study Bible, I eagerly awaited its arrival and purchased the hardback edition from I own and read just about every study bible out there including the Life Application Study Bible, the NIV Study Bible, the Ryrie Study Bible, the Quest Study Bible, the New Oxford Annotated Bible, the Inductive Study Bible, as well as the Nelson Study Bible (regular print). I also have these bibles in just about every version. Without question, the Nelson Study Bible is the very best.

The large print Nelson Study Bible comes in a 10 point font for easy reading and has all the same features as the regular print edition. This bible has over 15,000 expository study notes, 350 Word Focus Word Studies, 100 In-Depth articles, center-column references, a subect index, a huge concordance (nearly 200 pages!), over 80 maps, 80 Quick View Charts, 8 Full Bible Summary Sections, and much more.

If you're looking for a downside to this bible I can only mention two: (1) this bible is very large and weighs over 5 pounds. It's not one that you will want to carry around with you. (2) As with most study bibles, the margins could be wider for note taking. I do wish the margins were as wide as those in the Inductive Study Bible. Nevertheless, all the other features rates this one 5 stars.

I will mention that I was a little hesitant to order this bible after reading a comment by a previous reviewer (leather-bound edition) stating that the printing ink was inconsistent from one page to the other. He indicated that one page would be readable, but then on the opposite page the ink was so light as to be illegible. But I've skimmed through every page in its 2450 pages and have not seen this problem at all.

Bottom-line is this: if you want an outstanding study bible, in a large print, based on the Byzantine Greek manuscripts . . . this is THE bible for you!
