Editorial Reviews

“Make[s] the case for a more diverse approach to a timeless subject.” (Gallery + Studio)

“An in-depth look at our contemporary and historical fixation with the body and the nude.” (The Huffington Post)

“Though today’s nude is confrontational, the effect is rarely distancing; instead, Borzello concludes, its honesty forges an emotional bond between artist and viewer.” (Art & Auction)

Format: Hardcover
Over one hundred pictures of paintings, photographs, and preformance art (mostly in color) appear including Lucian Freud Portraits which also includes bare males.

Each piece of art is identified and the text further explains the purpose and significance as there is a range in the times the artwork was created. Some would be considered for private view only. Others are taken to extreme. Art school discussed and who was allowed to attend. Robert Mapplethorpe's work appears. Includes artists' self portraits and some abstract art.

Includes an index.

6 of 15 people found the following review helpful By Simon Barrett 'Il Penseroso' on October 30, 2012
Format: Hardcover
Having neatly contextualised our Ken (Clark), gospel for several generations, Borzello takes it forward. She's a safe pair of hands. The sometimes grisly present is leavened by a judicious sprinkling of earlier art, lest our appetite be prematurely sated
