Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Naked Pint is a great read for anyone interested in all things beer-from beer style descriptions to cooking with beer to brewing your own beer at home. Like a Beer 101 textbook to amp up your brew IQ, if only textbooks occassionally made you laugh out loud. The authors know their stuff; they understand and convey the notion that beer can be complex without being overly complicated, and they take beer seriously but don't take themselves too seriously. The Naked Pint is, um, revealing."
-Sam Calagione, president and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and author of Brewing Up a Business, Extreme Brewing, and He Said Beer, She Said Wine

"No one turns people on to beer the way that Christina and Hallie do. Along with their passion and expertise, they bring a wit and levity that exemplify the renegade spirit of craft beer."
-Greg Koch, CEO and co-founder, Stone Brewing Co.

"I have always loved beer without knowing much about it. I learned a lot in this factual, enlightening, and funny guide to one of the oldest and most cherished beverages known to man."
-Jacques Pepin cookbook author, cooking teacher, and PBS television cooking series host

"Whether you want to brew at home, belly up to the bar with confidence, or make magical pairings at the dinnertable, The Naked Pint makes learning about craft beers as fun as drinking them. You'll be a savvy sipper after reading this educational and engaging book."
-Leslie Sbrocco, PBS television host and author of Wine for Women

"An incredibly satisfying read! This books gets better-looking on every page. From Pale Ale to Weizen, The Naked Pint covers all of beer's finer points in a fun, witty, and approachable manner. Hallie and Christina's great taste and cool, refreshing style is the perfect introduction to the often intimidating world of craft beer."
-Rachael Leigh Cook

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book and long overdue! November 5, 2009
Format:Hardcover
I am a wine lover and avid beer drinker--and a very critical reader and writer.

This book--which I bought because I heard about it on the radio--fills a nice gap.

There are so many wine guides out there (I read Parker, Clive Coates and books on terrior, to give some an idea of my interest level) but there are few if any quality beer guides.

This book is well written, entertaining, makes a great gift for a lot of different types of people (a no brainer for the holidays as a gift, since it's unique and fun.)

On the critical side--a solid and excellent look at beer, period. The most sophisticated beer drinkers will appreciate a ton in this book.

Love it--definitely recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting tidbits but I can't relate January 17, 2011
Format:Hardcover
My major complaint is that this book seems to be written by girls that partied way too much with crappy beer now trying to relate with other party girls. Between the constant references to beer causing nights of regretful idiocy and promiscuity to immature giggles at the term "yeast", I don't think I could have felt more disconnected from the authors. The authors frequently allude to concerns about calories in beer but never bother listing the calorie contents of any beers or even suggest any craft beers that happen to be lower in calories.

However, there also were many useful factoids scattered throughout the book about both styles and breweries that I appreciated.

1.0 out of 5 stars If this book was a beer, it would be a Bud light. June 4, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you know anything about beer, don't buy this book. Not only is it not very educational, it's slightly offensive. Although it's marketed as a "great read for craft beer fans" the writers treat the readers like ignorant 21 year olds who need a spanking. They constantly accuse the reader of drinking bad beers their whole lives and now, just now; they can finally go to a bar and order a craft beer without embarrassing themselves. What?! Listen, you can only consider this a good book if A. You're a woman with a bad sense of humor and can relate to the silly jokes. B. You are new to craft beer, and I mean, NEW. The first 66 pages just make you cringe, it gets less irritating, but the only reason I finished reading it was so i could have a real opinion about it, and yep... it's bad. Not to mention the actual incorrect facts and the lack of support to some of the outrageous statements. Don't bother.
