I'm a woman, and I read this book for sociological reasons, hopefully to understand men's minds a bit better. I felt it did help me achieve this and I'm grateful.
First of all, I think this is a well written book, concise, to the point, written in a very conversational and friendly tone that anyone can follow. I believe it encourages men to have more self respect and gather as much confidence in themselves as they possible can. I always like to see genuine encouragement from a fellow human. I also believe it took the author a lot of courage to write this book. On the whole, the psychoanalytical aspects of this book are fascinating, in parts it's very funny and I believe it is beneficial for anyone wanting to improve their general confidence with anyone, not just a particular gender. However my main reservation comes one part of the book, and something streaking like guile, which is unnecessary. I am not saying the author is advocating this, merely that there is a slight undercurrent of it and men regarding it in general. The reviewers who are reviewing the author's personal charachter are contributing an irrelevant discussion, his personality is irrespective of the work, so stop judging the book by those standards.
Women would much prefer honesty about your intentions. If there is one thing people value at all times it is honesty. Gentleman there are women who will screw you silly out in no need of anything in return but you do not need to deceive a girl who isn't of that persuasion. There is no need to humiliate a woman into thinking you have feelings for her you don't possess. Why would you want to intentionally hurt someone? Instead of being sly, come clean. I do not see what is so hard about saying to a prospective girl 'Let's skip the jazz. You're an amazingly hot girl.

I read Neil Strauss' The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists right before reading "The Natural" by Richard La Ruina. Where "The Game" contains some pick-up tidbits along the way it is mainly a story of Strauss' experiences. Here in "The Natural" the author attempts to do some more serious teaching on the subject and is pretty successful depending on the audience.

The book is squarely aimed at guys with very little experience with women. The author, when telling his story, says that he had only kissed a couple of girls by the time he was in his 20's. He decided to try anything and everything to improve his game and those are the things he writes about in the book. It is interesting to see how much of these concepts are nothing more than common sense to a lot of guys, but for those that it is not this book will probably be very helpful.

The book does a good job of breaking down the steps that guys should take and then perfecting them. As with any other skill, practice and repetition do make big differences. If you don't know how to approach women, or are too afraid to do so, this book could help you get over the hump.

Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone that feels that they just don't have the confidence to walk up to a random woman and talk to her. If you can already approach a woman and start up a conversation than you probably don't need to waste your time.

Richard La Reina makes it sound pretty easy to pick up hot girls, but I think this book also deals very well with how to live a happier life by interacting with not just women but everyone. This is a one-book course on how to enjoy and appreciate, and communicate with, all peoples. Good advice for every guy, especially the introvert.

This book is fairly superficial and usually doesn't go much deeper than advising you to read social cues and body language, display confidence, try to form bonds, and how to navigate nightlife environments. Readers who don't drink alcohol will find the typical bar and nightclub focused approach employed here to be tiresome and shallow. The advice given here doesn't seem all that "natural" in fact, despite the title. Sometimes it's "natural" but sometimes it's just typical manipulative "PUA" stuff.

Other reviews have implied that this book is not manipulative in nature, and this was why I originally bought the book, but I found after finishing it (from cover to cover) that this was not the case. There's a significant amount of manipulation in it.

In the book, the author denies being unethical but then will proceed to immediately describe a bunch of slimy and deceptive ways of manipulating a situation. For example, at one point in the book he describes a variety of different ways of sneaking into a club that you don't have permission to enter, including coldly STEALING THE IDENTITY OF AN INNOCENT GUEST!

Sure, there's also some good advice mixed in here as well. However, the occasional unethical bit in this book greatly reduces its credibility. The way it sometimes encourages you to lie a little bit so you can approach a woman earns this book a negative review in my eyes.

Bottom line: There's some useful stuff here, but not really all that much, and you'll need to be strong willed enough to know the difference between right and wrong and ignore some of the unethical suggestions in it.
