Editorial Reviews

Review

"The Nature of Alaska is a beautifully illustrated guide which highlights more than 275 familiar plants and animals, and dozens of Alaska's natural attractions. The Nature of Alaska is an indispensable single reference for amateur naturalists, students, tourists, and armchair travelers of all ages."
- Midwest Book Review

"...a great identification book without being too bulky or cumbersome to carry around on the trail."
- Alaska Hike Search

"... lists 275 species in an easy to use format. The small size makes it perfect for carrying in a backpack, and the color-coded pages make looking up different sections easy and quick."
- Anchorage Municipal Libraries

This book is basically a culmination of the species found in their field guides with additional information. It was very useful to help us learn more about the animals and plants we identified (using the field guides) during the inspection of our land once we got back to the hotel room. The section on natural attractions is very informative and we look forward to using it during our travels in the state.

The Nature of Alaska, 2nd: An Introduction to Familiar Plants, Animals & Outstanding Natural Attractions

Because the images are hand drawn & painted, with no reference points for perspective, habitat or season, this earnest effort is really basic. In these days of digital cameras & computer programs, it doesn't do justice to the flora & fauna of this fabled land.

This wildlife guide is abbreviated and does not do much more than help identify mammals, sea life, birds, plants etc. Not much info on habits and habitat, migration patterns,
seasonal plumage, juveniles vs adults and the like. But, what can you expect in a small package? I got it to take to Alaska as a help. It was more helpful on some things than on others. I consulted it after spotting creatures and vegetation of interest to augment my own observations. I do not think I would lug it on a trip again. I would rather purchase a far more comprehensive book and consult it when I got home. Maybe one day, I will own an iPad and can then take a library with me.

I got this book for my 9 year old daughter because we are in Alaska right now and she loves learning about animals. This book is bright and colorful and has just enough information to keep her interest.

Excellent information with very detailed, precise drawings of each living critter and plant in Alaska.
The detailed descriptions of each of the creatures, including plant life, is invaluable for anyone planning on hiking the back country or staking their claim and moving to Alaska.

Pretty illustrations and correct Latin names of the species. For being the only Alaskan Fauna&Flora guide on the market it is well done for everybody who wants to explore Alaskan's nature and it's uniqueness.
For scientifical use too low accuracy.

Used for an Alaskan cruise, very portable and informative. Not a full field guide, but certainly has the essentials for identifying what you're seeing!
