My favorite book by Jasmine Haynes is The Principal's Office, and this new book has some similarities to that one, which really pleased me: a more mature couple, divorce and kids, some family issues and drama, and a sexual exploration or awakening. I love that JH can write a good 'mature' couple. They're older without feeling old or out of touch. I dislike when authors write an h/H who are in their late 30s or 40s and makes them read as boring or unattractive and over the hill. JH doesn't do that; she makes them feel real, giving them a few adult problems to work out, while at the same time, keeping these characters fresh and sexy and interesting. Not boring at all.

Gray is forty-five years old, divorced and trying to re-connect with his seventeen-year-old son. Lola is about thirty-eight, I think, if I did the math right; she's divorced, too, and feeling a little gun-shy where relationships are concerned. Her ex really did a number on her, always criticizing her in almost every way, wanting to make her perfect and make her fit his expectations. So, now Lola likes no-strings, no expectations, just wanting to live her life on her terms and not have to answer to any man. And yeah, maybe she is avoiding, but then she meets Gray, a man who thinks that Lola is just about perfect for him. And while he's bossy and demanding of her, he doesn't want to change anything about Lola. I loved that about him.

Jasmine Haynes writes an absolutely fine older man.

The Naughty Corner by Jasmine Haynes
Grade: D+

“Most people did dinner and a movie. They were doing dinner and a sex party.”

Lola Cook never expected to have her twin nephews for the entire summer so to dill time she enrolls them in football camp lead by Gray Barnett. The twins are not happy about spending their summer in a camp and do everything the can to get in trouble. In exchange for not kicking the boys out Gray suggests that every time the boys misbehave Lola will take their punishment instead. With no other options Lola agrees and discovers a whole new world of kinky sex with Coach Gray.

Gray Barnett wanted Lola the moment he saw her and when her nephews misbehave Gray finds a way to get the woman who’s driving him crazy. Sex with Lola is everything Gray knew it would be and he soon finds himself addicted to her submissive nature and knows she was made for him and him alone. Family problems threaten to break them up but Gray refuses to lose the one woman who can fulfill him sexually and he will do everything in his power to keep Lola forever.

I wanted to like this book but I just had way too many problems. First I had the hardest time in the world believing that Gray would proposition Lola with a sexual relationship without ever speaking a word to her and then having Lola agree. It happened very quickly and was set up so fast it made it hard to believe but it happens and these two start having (a lot) of sex. I also had a problem with how Gray treated Lola and how she put up with it. She is really upset that he ignores her for days but then when he calls never says anything and acts so happy that he is finally paying her any attention. Its kind of sad and pathetic.

The Naughty Corner is a sexy humorous erotic romance that starts out as a fun way for two people to scratch an itch only to build into an emotional fulfilling relationship. A smooth flowing story with engaging characters and a viable storyline that intertwines romance, kink, family drama, and a few lessons in trust for our MCs.

Haynes introduces our protagonists, allowing us to get to know them while they get to know one another. I enjoyed that both are mature adults (late 30’s/early 40’s) and established in their careers. While each has the usual baggage-past failed relationships and family drama-neither of them are emotionally stunted to the point of being unable to have a normal healthy relationship. Their relationship starts out purely sexual and instantaneous-Lola’s first “punishment” is the same day they meet.

A perfect blending of strength and vulnerability, Lola Cook was a joy to meet. Strong, intelligent, funny, and practical, she has a healthy sense of self that resonates throughout the story. Plus, a snarky dry wit that will leave you giggling with her observations of herself and those around her. Made to feel inadequate by her ex husband, Lola chooses relationships that don’t require any emotional effort on her part. She chooses caution over abandoned. This is one reason she is so intrigued by Gary’s proposition. She gets the chance to play with the sexy coach and indulge in some kinky playtime without risking her heart.

Her whole body was abuzz with the need to know. She wanted to play his game because he attracted her, because he offered her something new and exciting…She was a big talker, but she had to admit she did more looking than doing.
Gary is the perfect blend of arrogance and charm.
