. . . with the addition of the Major Prophets. This series provides a desperately needed resource for the serious Catholic Scripture student.
Now that the Navarre Bible New Testament project has been completed, the editors have turned their attention to the Old Testament. This volume "Major" is the sifth result of that effort, following up on the well-received "Wisdom Books".
I highly recommend the entire series, and have used the series in teaching on the collegiate level.
The primary text is the Catholic version of the widely regarded "Revised Standard Version". Included as well is the New Latin Vulgate. Sandwiched between is excellent expository verse-by-verse commentary on the Scripture text. The commentary is taken from a conservative, traditional, yet scholarly Catholic perspective.
The Navarre Bible is an excellent Bible. The Bible is the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition, and the New Vulgate. The commentary is by the Faculty of Theology of the University of Navarre in Navarre, Spain. St. Jose Maria Escriva has provided commentary. What I especially like is that there is extensive commentary. On average, for every paragraph of the Bible, there is about 3 -4 paragraphs of commentary. I own the entire New Testament and am now collecting the Old Testament. Fr. John Corapi names this as one of the best Bibles because of the commentary.
The Navarre Bible is fantastic example of in-depth view on Bible. It helps to understand specific of Bible times and God message for us, Christians. Also its usefull to receive the message of Jesus Christ.
