Because so much of this material is new to me, I constantly checked Yeadon's information online--and he was always backed up by many sources. What he has to say is so important, especially at this point in our history, and especially in this election year. But I feel strongly that his mastery of the material does not lead to a reader's mastery of the material. Yeadon's story is very complex, full of details and more characters than a proverbial Russian novel. As someone new to this material, I had to make an effort to stick with it. I want this book to be more widely read, this information more widely disseminated, but think this will only happen if the material is reworked. Try not to let this deter you from this important book.
[The book needs some serious attention by a copy editor.]
01) A serious work that offers new information about American corporations betraying the public interest; and
02) Totally lacking in visualizations and "trees" showing both the family trees of those like the Bushes that started out and stayed Nazi sympathizers; and those who entered the USA under CIA sponsorship after the war, and spawned multiple generations of neo-Nazi mind-sets with assets able to influence public policy.
Then I noticed Howard Zinn's jacket blurb ("A valuable history...shocking and sobering...deserves to be widely read" and I mention that to make the point that my four star grade is one of disappointment at what could have been, NOT disappointment at what is. This is a very useful serious book, it needs to be redone.
I totally agree with another reviewer who expresses a desire for footnotes rather than endnotes. For works of this kind that are both controversial and revelatory, the notes needs to be as close to the text as possible.
This entire book strongly reinforces my long-standing view that every nation needs to have a very strong counterintelligence cadre to guard against both religious and corporate treason. The US was clearly infected with Nazi ideology, sympathy, and corruption, and this has clearly carried over into today's corporate immunity from government regulation, and the achievement of the virtual corporate state in the USA -- in a word, neo-fascism.
The book is an excellent mix of material I was not familiar with, and material I have have encountered before. The latter tracks with what I have read from others, thus in my lay view authenticating the mew material.Read more ›
There was a truly disturbing level of collaboration between the fascists in Germany & Italy and prominent American businessmen and politicians, starting in the early 1920s, and continuing on after World War II. Pure greed seems to have motivated some of it, but often there was a larger ideology at work: a contempt for the idea that the people should have a government that represents their interests. Instead, there is the belief that government should become a tool of the rich and powerful to gain even more wealth and power. War and terror are the tactics used to maintain this system and control people. This is the essence of fascism.
Allen Dulles, John Foster Dulles, Prescott Bush, the Rockefellers and duPonts, John McCloy, Herbert Hoover, James Angleton and many others simply committed treason (there is no other word for it) right through the Second World War. Many in the American media helped to cover it up. Franklin Roosevelt intended to make public the evidence of their treason when the war ended, but his death prevented this.
The authors also explore the lesser-known story of what happened to the gold and valuables plundered by the Nazis and Japanese. Evidence suggests that much of it was secretly recovered and used by intelligence agencies and armies of the West for black operations during the Cold War. Also discussed are the Vatican/CIA ratlines, Gladio, MK-ULTRA and mind control programs, blackmail operations against politicians, pedophile networks, drug trafficking, and government links with organized crime.
The obvious political position of the authors is that Communists are harmless, leftists are good, and anyone to the right of FDR is a fascist. In some segments, the material is simply opinion stated as fact. If the facts involve liberal politicians, the details are skipped over with no examination or rationalized excuses and no attempt is made to dig into potentially damaging material.
I would still buy this book, but I confess that I felt let down by the tendency of the authors to let this degenerate into a partisan hit-piece rather than following the facts where ever they led. The material facts are disturbing but the investigation needed to be carried further without partisan bias.
