TempurPedic "The Neck Pillow" BEST EVER PILLOW FOR A BAD NECK,
By gilly8 "gilly8" (Mars, the hotspot of the U.S.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Neck Pillow by Tempurpedic - Small
I've used a TempurPedic "Neck Pillow" size small for several years. I have bulging discs in my cervical spine (neck) which impinge on the nerves of my shoulders, due to an accident. I see a Pain doctor and a Neurologist for this problem...I have tried, over many years, all kinds of pillows, including the ones with little beads or beans (?) in them, various types in stores or onling recommended for the neck/shoulder area...this was by far the most expensive but is definitely worth it.NO you cannot return this pillow...or, I think, by law, any pillow you have used. That is not Amazon or TempurPedic that is a law pertaining to health/ prevention of disease. Of course at a garage sale or whatever you can find used pillows, mattresses and so on, but then its' buyer beware! Not sure what odor the other posters refer to. All new items have some type of odor. With a pillowcase on the pillow I've never even noticed an odor. Put two pillow cases on, one zippered, if you're really bothered, and take them off to let the pillow "air out" in the daytime, thats just a suggestion, as I said I never noticed a problem. I did have to "learn" to flip the pillow, so that if I was on my back ---as I try to be all night---my head is on the thinner part of the pillow. If I do feel I have to lie on my side --I flip the pillow so that the thick portion is under my side-lying neck/shoulder, for support. Its become an ingrained habit now, that I don't think about or even wake up consciously to do. It helps tremendously in decreasing (not entirely, but partially) neck spasms and headaches due to sleeping. I think almost anyone with a "bad neck" can relate. Its worth a try if you're really suffering. Just be very aware of what size you're getting. I'm 5'2" and I need the small size pillow. There is a medium and large size on the TempurPedic site; I know Amazon carries the large size. The difference is in the thickness of the "thin" portion of the pillow. 3" on the small; 4" on the medium and large pillows. Highly recommended for anyone with a painful condition of neck or shoulders, and pain during the night or when you wake up in the morning.

Be Cautious,

Unfortunately this pillow was a waste of money for me. I had two issues which made it unusable:First, the smell never entirely dissipated and caused allergy problems for my husband. They claim that these are hypo-allergenic, but this was not the case for us. Second, this actually CAUSED me to develop neck pain. I've used cheaper foam pillows in the past with no problem, but something about this one wreaked havoc on my neck. I stopped using the pillow after about a month and the pain was gone in a week! This was an extremely disappointing experience, made even more so by Tempur-Pedic's refusal to accept returns and lack of concern with the issues caused.

Herniated disc in my neck,
By DJ6Diablesse "DJ6" (Chicago) - See all my reviews

I love this pillow and won't even think about using a regular pillow. I had an MRI and the physician said my cervical spine looked like that of someone 20 years older. This was mainly due to a car accident I had been in as a teenager. If you've had neck problems I HIGHLY recommend this pillow. And, frankly, I'm pretty sensitive to smells and this one did not bother me at all. Frankly, even if it was covered with offensive perfume I would likely use it because it helps my health so much. Having a herniated cervical disc is definitely no fun.

TERRIBLE ITEM,

This pillow has a most offensive smell that prevents its use as intended. The oder is absolutely awful. The item did arrive on time and feels good to the touch and was the right size. You just cannot get near it. Since not a direct Amazon item now dealing with the seller for refund info though from other reviews with similar problems that does not look hopeful. Thank you.

Becareful Order the wrong size and you're stuck,
By David in the suburbs (LA suburb, CA) - See all my reviews

I ordered the wrong size which was too small and the particular seller won't take refunds or exchanges because you "tried it on" so to speak. Lesson for me to read the seller's refund/exchange policy next time tempurpedic wouldn't have had this policy.

Great Pillow,

My Wife and I love these pillows - they do smell quite a bit and the smell doesn't go entirely away for a few months. That is made up for by the comfort and diversity of the pillow. It can easily be used while sleeping on your back, side and even stomach.

With this tempurpedic neck pillow, my journey for a perfect pillow is over!I used to see a physical therapist to heal my neck after minor car accident, but could not have satisfactory result. But now, with this new pillow, I feel much better!

Tempurpedic Neck Pillow - Rest Easy,

This is the second Tempurpedic neck pillow I purchased, as I wore out my original. I bought a small size and wish that I'd purchased the regular size one.My first one was a bit too large and came with extra pieces of foam to bolster parts of the pillow so that it could be made to contour to a person's neck, shoulders and provide proper support and alignment. These pieces all fit together and then slipped inside a specially designed pillow case. The new one is shaped in a way to provide support and alignment, and the instructions state that it should be flipped around if one is a side, back or stomach sleeper. Easier said than done when one is sound asleep - I have a hard time waking up enough to flip my pillow around to the proper position to accomodate my sleeping position without waking up. That said, once I got used to it (about two - three weeks) and it softened and contoured to my body some, it was okay. Still, I think that I would prefer a larger one, with less contouring. However, I wake up without bad neck pain, which I had before, so it is doing its job. On balance, I would recommend it to a friend or family member. I think that it does the job and, once the person is used to how it feels and adjusts to sleeping with it, it does provide support and structure. Do purchase a special pillow cover for it - a slightly padded pillow cover designed to go with it. A normal pillowcase without the padded cover will not be enough.

The 10-minute Pillow,
By
This review is from: The Neck Pillow by Tempurpedic - Small
This pillow is great as long as it's cold. Once it warms up from body heat, it becomes about 1" thick, like a rag, basically, not a pillow at all. I definitely don't recommend getting this pillow.
