More About the Author

L. Alison Heller grew up in Connecticut and attended Bates College in Maine. After graduation, she wandered dreamily around the eastern seaboard, temping and interning and shelving books, trying a little of this and a little of that, before landing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Having hit her limit for dreamy wandering, she enrolled at the University of North Carolina School of Law. In 2000, she graduated from UNC with honors and moved to New York City, where she toiled in several law firms, growing increasingly nostalgic for those days of dreamy wandering. Alison opened her own family law and mediation practice in 2006 to help couples divorce with their sanity intact.

Alison's first novel, THE LOVE WARS, will be published by Penguin (NAL) in May 2013. Her second novel, as of yet untitled, is scheduled for 2014.

Alison currently lives in Brooklyn with her family and is right now probably working on someone's divorce or her next novel or riding on the New York City subway, dragging or being dragged by at least one child on a scooter. (Don't be fooled by Alison's modest blush--the subway dragging is every bit as glamorous as it sounds.)

She'd love to hear from you!

Format: Paperback
The Never Never Sisters by L. Alison Heller, the author of The Love Wars, is a powerful and poignant story about love, life, family secrets and discovering one' true self. It is the story of Paige Reinhardt, who one would consider a success in life. With a successful career as a marriage counselor and a loving husband Dave, she couldn't ask for a more wonderful life, or so it seems. Careful enough to plan ahead with summer knocking on the door, Paige rented a beach house which she planned to use on the weekends.

But her carefully laid plans and her seemingly wonderful world crumbled when her husband Dave is suspended by the law firm that employed him. Paige begins to suspect that something is terribly wrong, and refuses to buy Dave's story that he doesn't know why he's put on leave. Feelings of doubt and suspicion begin to gnaw at her heart, and she is determined to get to the bottom of the whole mess. To add more confusion and chaos to her life, her sister Sloane whom she had not seen in decades informed her parents that she wanted to visit her.

Author L. Alison Heller deftly navigated the unfolding drama and relationship between Paige and Dave on one hand and between Paige and her sister Sloane on the other. The Never Never Sisters is a fast, entertaining and though- provoking story that explores important real-life issues like relationship, family bonding, and addiction. Through its strong and memorable cast of characters, including the sibling's mother Vanessa, the author paints a sweeping story of reconciliation, forgiveness and healing. Compelling, powerful, poignant, and at times delightfully witty, this wonderfully written story will keep you absorbed from the first page to the last.

Format: Kindle Edition
The Never Never Sisters by L. Alison Heller is a very insightful and captivating journey of healing, forgiveness and self-discovery. It is also a thought-provoking novel about family relationships and how well we really know (or don’t know) our loved ones.

At the outset of The Never Never Sisters, Paige Reinhardt’s life is picture perfect. She is happily married with a successful career as a marriage counselor and she has a close relationship with her parents. But her world slowly careens out of control after her husband, Dave, is temporarily suspended and her sister Sloane comes back into their lives after a twenty year absence. Dave is very secretive about the reason for his suspension and Sloane remains evasive about her sudden desire to reconnect with her family. Paige’s search for the truth leads to unexpected revelations that have surprising consequences for her various relationships.

Much of The Never Never Sisters is written in first person from Paige’s point of view. She is a very likable character but due to her family’s history, she is the good girl in the family. She does what is expected of her and although now in her early thirties, she continues to be very involved with her parents’ lives. Much of her childhood is shrouded in secrecy with her parents refusing to discuss Sloane’s addiction or disappearance. This pattern is repeated with Dave’s suspension and Paige is content with his explanation until a breaking news story arouses her suspicions that he might somehow be involved in the emerging scandal.

Paige’s relationship with Sloane is strained and it takes much of the novel to mend the rift between them. Communication is an issue for the sisters and this leads to erroneous assumptions and misconceptions on both sides.

Marriage counselor Paige Reinhardt is looking forward to spending time with her lawyer husband, Dave, at the cottage they’ve rented in the Hamptons. However, in the blink of an eye Paige’s well ordered life an summer plans are thrown into disarray. Dave is suspended for reasons he claims are unknown but continues to work from home. He’s become secretive, almost obsessive. To ice the cake her sister Sloane is scheduled to visit after a twenty year absence.

Paige is the narrator with occasional input from Vanessa, her and Sloane’s mother. Despite being the main voice I didn’t know who Paige was until over half way through the book. She seemed to reflect what others wanted from her or for her to be.
Paige and Sloane were fairly stereotypical in their familial roles. Sloane, the hellion who gives her parents no end of grief. Paige tries to make amends by being dutiful, amenable and never rocking the boat of family calm. She’s relegated Sloane to a hidden place in her heart and mind. Once Sloane arrives it’s obvious not much has changed in her relationship with her parents; however she makes a concerted effort to connect with Paige.

Paige and Dave are going through a tumultuous time in their marriage. He’s shut her out, is acting strangely, and avoiding her attempts to ferret information. Has he done something illegal? Is he somehow involved in the huge insider trading scandal making news? To distract herself Paige begins going through stored items removed from the spare room Dave is using as a home office. In addition to her own journals she discovers the therapy journals her mother wrote when Sloane was sent to rehab the last time. Vanessa’s journals reveal a side of her mother Paige could never have imagined. Dave isn’t the only one with secrets.
