There's two important things to consider: First, this diet is pointless if you only do it for one week. Though you will probably lose 10 pounds after a week of this diet (I did), one week after you've finished, you'll be back to your previous weight, probably with some extra added on. To get anything long-lasting out of this diet, you'd have to do at least 6 weeks. Then you would need to gradually ease back into normal eating in increments as well as start to exercise at least an hour a day in order to maintain the weight loss.

Second consideration is that this is not a healthy diet to stick to long term. However, I had tried every diet out there and couldn't lose any weight. I had a BMI of 27, eating 800 calories a day and doing intense exercise three hours a day. After several months of this, I had not lost one single pound. The only method I could find that made me lose weight was starving. Then I tried this diet, was eating more calories than previously, and lost 10 pounds in a week.

As such, I do recommend this as a last resort for the overweight . If starving is the only way you can lose weight, this diet is a very good alternative to becoming anorexic. Just be sure to maintain the diet for six weeks and then adjust into a normal, healthy diet gradually while starting to exercise an hour a day when you have reached your goal weight. Don't forget your multivitamin.

If you're just not good at making yourself exercise and restricting food, or if you're a healthy weight and just want to be thinner, this is definitely not the diet for you - try French Women Don't Get Fat instead.

One last thing. This diet forbids milk except on Day 5. There is evidence (go to [...] and type in "milk weight loss" in the search field) to show that dairy food greatly speeds up weight loss. For that reason, I allow myself skim milk, cottage cheese and lowfat plain yoghurt (which I flavour with Davinci sugar-free syrups) every day, but otherwise stick to what the diet says. I'd recommend that adjustment.

I think that this diet is one of the best things to ever happen! I loved the book and the diet too! Be careful because the diet is not something that you should continue for a long time. In fact it is more of a cleanse than a diet. But, I happen to have lost 15 lbs on the diet myself... so I am a believer.

This is a great diet book. I lost 35 lbs in 5 months. I found about this diet in the internet and tried it. I lost 8lbs in the first week. After losing about 20lbs I found this book. This book is slightly different and better than the original version that I was following. I was doing this diet continuously taking 1 day break. Sometimes I was bored of drinking the soup everyday. This book has many ideas to spice up the soup. I definitely recommend it.

Awesome book. I love that all the info on this diet is in this handy on the go book. The diet works and I love I can take this book to the grocery store with the shopping list. The day by day instructions and the soup recipe all in one place. Love this I have lost weight on this diet and I love this book.

This diet is really amazing! I was always full, and lost 18 lbs. in 21 days! I think if you are home and can give yourself 7 days you will be off to a great start! You can't go too far from the toilet because you will spend a lot of time urinating, BUT, that's how you lose the weight! If I can drop 21 lbs. in 18 days, so can you.

This book is excellent for recipes, and good ideas on how to make the diet work well for you.

Remember, this isn't a lifetime diet, you are only supposed to do it for 7 days at a time, then wait a month and use it again if you need to. You can stay on a diet for 7 days now can't you? Think of how much weight loss 21 lbs is, or how much a 7 lb loss will be in just a week.

This is also called the MAYO Diet. You can read about it if you order this book. I got a brand new book for a very small price. What a great book for Christmas to lose those extra Christmas pounds!

I like the old recipe better, but this should give some people who were intolerant to the limitations of the old recipe a choice. It is okay. Cheap book worth buying for what it is.

I have been on the cabbage soup diet for a year (on and off). I've done it about six times and I've lost over thirty pounds.

I do NOT like cabbage or most vegetables, for that matter. But, I bought a blender, blend it up REAL well and I drink it. I'm used to it, now.

What the cabbage soup diet has taught me....is how I'm supposed to eat, how the body reacts/feels when eating properly.

It's gotten to the point where, when I'm off the cabbage soup diet...my mind and body feel guilty.

Save your money and buy a low fat diet book. More healthy and tastes better also. Cabbage soup is not a filler uper
