"This is the cookbook I've been waiting for! A brilliant mixing and marrying of Latino flavors with those of the American South. There is no better person to write The New Southern-Latino Table than Sandra Gutierrez, an American of Guatemalan heritage who chose the South as her home. I've known Sandra for 15 years, and I've seen her in action--cooking, teaching, writing--always with passion, always with expertise. Is it any wonder that I can't wait to cook my way straight through this book? I haven't seen so many exciting and original recipes in ages."--Jean Anderson, author, A Love Affair with Southern Cooking, and member, The James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame

5.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Point of View with Good Recipes January 8, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first saw this book when I attended a class given by Sandra Gutierrez. She is a charming and lively teacher and her Southern-Latino cooking is innovative but based on good understanding of both cultures as well as sound cooking techniques and a practical approach to food. All of this is clearly reflected in her well-written book. I purchased this copy as a gift for a couple - one Southerner and one Latina - who are both interested in cooking. I'm sure they will enjoy using it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neat idea for fusion cuisine. December 22, 2012

I live in the South and I love Latin American food as well as deep Southern classics. This book attempts to blend the two in some interesting ways. Not all of this is that appealing, but much of it is.

To top it off, she even looks kinda like a Latina Paula Deen(I actually despise Paula Deen).

If you want to explore the notion Southern-Latino fusion cuisine, this book will make a useful resource when looking for ideas.
