Book Description

September 4, 2012
Is it true what they say? That we’re only as sick as our worst secret? Because Helen Patrice has one. Last night, she murdered a stranger…

Helen is a recovering alcoholic struggling through a twelve-step program. Now it’s time to make amends for a crime she got away with—a hit and run accident that killed the wife of school teacher Edgar Woolrich. It’s time to face the consequences. When she finally gathers the courage to meet him, the ninth step begins with a lie—the first of many as their relationship grows, and Helen knows it’s far too late to reveal the truth to a man she’s come to love. Then one day, she receives an anonymous note: Does he know you killed his wife?

Now her devastating trail of deceit is about to lead her into the darkest place so far—that of other people’s secrets…

5.0 out of 5 stars As twisted and tangled as a bowl of spaghetti September 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is easily one of my favorite mystery/suspense tales of the year. At the precise moment when you know exactly what the outcome will be -- YOU ARE DEAD WRONG. Heck, you are not even close!! You may not even be in the right galaxy. Author Jerkins does this over and over again to us, his trusting readers. All I can say is that the man is fiendishly clever. No sooner do you have an "aha moment " than the crafty Jerkins pulls the rug out from under your feet again. Although I do not like reading or writing reviews because the chance of spoiling an ending exists, I had to break my rule and offer my thoughts on this book. Jerkins deserves an Edgar Award for this gem. It is easily his best work to date, and he will fool even the most diehard mystery/suspense lover. Grab it, sit back, and savor the best, most non-formulaic suspense/mystery of the year. Books like this one make my job as a bookstore owner with well-read mystery loving customers amazingly easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild Read September 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
Mr Jerkins' best work yet is a wild read. Buckle up! Characters are so perfectly developed that you're sure you've actually met them. But Jerkins readers know that life is crazy and extraordinary things happen to everyone. A fast and fun read, it is also worth savoring for his mastery of phrase and the emotive pathology of his form. Beautifully edited, this book is polished to a high gloss and is a keeper for my personal library.

2.0 out of 5 stars What I did not like about this book:
The author shows only the dark side of AA and lacks any redeeming quality, failing to show as well what could have been the positive aspects of following a 12 Step program.
