Those unable to see the brilliance of Odd Future are simply consumers - they have no eye for criticism, social commentary, or affect. Simultaneously celebratory and critical of black culture, hip-hop, and the not-so implicit materialism, misogyny, and misanthropy that accompanies the rampant, unchecked masculinity which defines OF's "swag" (of course, their usage is meant to be ironic), simply listen to a track like "We Got B*****," more or less a sequel to "B**** S*** D***," and it's easy to see the tongue-in-cheek terrain being circumnavigated. The grotesqueries involved extend from the blaring hook, outlandish lyrics ("Count money, get my hair-braided by your b****") and OF's now expected rambunctious approach to cadence and commentary. Refraining from an approach that preaches difference (or simply preaches, think Immortal Technique), OF is more interested in using the very tools that define hip-hop in order to subvert it. Playful, lyrically provocative, referentially eclectic, and musically tight (OF's varied beats and tones cannot be discounted, in the least, this is still quality hip-hop in the conventional sense), as Hodgy says in "Rella," "Hop on the bandwagon, kid, I'm about to show you some tragic s***."

5.0 out of 5 stars Angry March 20, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you think anger is a negative emotion than Odd Future is not for you.

Let's face it, there is plenty to be mad about these days, thank God there are still artists willing to express this global feeling of angst and disappointment. This album is solid hip-hop, and it really feels like Wu-Tang all over again, but these guys are totally their own act. I am honored to be young enough to appreciate this group, Odd Future is definitely for the children.

To all the power-hungry governments, corrupt empires, various mind-controlling -isms, greedy corporations, mainstream media outlets, and any other conformist organizations: You made us into outcasts when we refused your ways, but your ways didn't work...they were flawed. You led the world astray and you pissed us off. **** you.

Golf Wang, snitches!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it. March 21, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A great album. Between the touring and the TV show, there hasn't been a lot of music released from Odd Future in awhile. This CD helps show how much they've improved. The inclusion of a new verse from Earl Sweatshirt is reason enough to purchase this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The gist of this tape is to... March 29, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Prepare you for the evolution of Odd Future. It was only in early 2010 when I encountered Earl Sweatshirt on XM Sirius radio with his song "Kill em' all", and I just had to think to myself "....who in the hell would let a 40 year old degenerate record a rap song?". When I got home, I immediately headed for the computer to research Earl Sweatshirt, and since he was relatively new, the information was anemic. I did manage to dig up a video of his, and it wound up being seared in my brain because of the images...but much to my surprise I found out he was only 16. He was wayyyyy too mature with his lyrical content, but I loved it. I kept clicking on links and was led to Odd Future.com, where I downloaded all of their albums for free, including The OF Tape Vol. 1. Everyone in the group was from 16-18.

Now...we have an almost three year older group, and to add to that, they have traveled the world. The content remains somewhat...but they have matured in thier satire of mainstream rap culture. The song "We got B!#&hes" is in the same vein as "Tina", and "B!#&h Suck D!#k"...where they poke at the thin-layered, mysoginistic nature of rap over Down South Dirty Beats (which is a far departure from Odd Future's Odd beats made from Tyler and Left Brain). Some of the most notable points on the album is the shining of The Internet, she is cool and kick-back (Check out "Purple Naked Ladies"), Domo Genesis is much sicker in his flow...at this rate, he is competing to be lyricist of the year (check out "Under the Influence", and his verse on "Rella" and "Oldie"), and last but not least, after a 1 1/2 hiatus, Earl Sweatshirt (he is 18 now) is back in the flesh...ripping up the "Oldie" track with a nearly 3 minute flow (last rapper)...so I guess no more "Free Earl" slogan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! March 30, 2012
By Rick C
Format:Audio CD
A lot of people might think Odd Future's music are horrible or even think they're satanic. Some of the songs from this album are just jokes, or to make fun of mainstream music. Of course none of the members of Odd Future are actually satanic. They're a group of talented rappers that are living their dreams, why hate?

4.0 out of 5 stars never thought the day would come. 3.5/5 June 10, 2013
Format:Audio CD
If you asked me about odd future a month ago i probably wouldve ended the conversation there and then, but then one day i had a sudden urge to listen to something different. About a week ago i was in hmv just browsing and i saw this and picked it up, i havent put it down since. The thing i like the most about OF is the diversity within the group, you only need to listen to tracks 1-7 to know what i mean. '50' and 'analog 2' are so different it's ridiculous. In short, if you're looking for some hip hop thats actually unique then you should definitely cop this album. It really has it all, from softer r&bish songs like 'Ya Know' and 'Analog 2' to songs that get you hyped as f*** like 'P' and 'Hcapd'.

Favorite songs:
P
Analog 2
Forest Green
Ya Know
Oldie
Sam(Is Dead)
