Review

If high heat, steamy romance is your thing, then look no further than Ju Ephraime's The Odor of Violet. In her usual emotionally riveting and heated style, Ephraime has produced another winner. It's funny, loaded with passionate scenes and a joy to read.

From the Author

Like all my other romance novels, this one is STEAMY and HOT. I have again taken the liberty to write this book similar to the romance novels I enjoy reading. I love high heat, steamy romance novels and this is my writing style. If you are put-off by explicit sex scenes, PLEASE DO NOT buy my novels. I don't believe in closing the bedroom door like some others, I take you in there, right into the heart of the matter. (smile).  I hope you'll take the time to read this before buying my book. However, if after reading this, you want to proceed, then, Enjoy!

OMG I love a wounded antagonist and Damien Falconer is just such a man. Having lost his sight in a terrible accident he fears he will never love again... but fate has in store for him something rather special. A nurse, with a tantalising smell is about to enter his life and no matter how much he wants to hide away from the world, she is going to help him face things he'd rather slide under the carpet. This is a passionate, sensual and delightfully spicy read that will have you devouring the pages in a single sitting!

I would consider this book to be a hybrid romance/erotica. To me, true erotica focuses on the sexual act itself and has little substance beyond. There's definitely a plot here - a relationship behind the relations.

Damien lost his sight in a freak accident about two years ago. Lisa is hired to help him with some of his daily needs. An attraction develops between the two almost from the instant they meet. But there are obstacles to overcome: the employer/employee relationship in addition to the fact that Damien is unable to believe that a woman would ever want to be with him in his handicapped state. Based on that conflict, I expected a more intriguing read, but it just fell flat for me.

First off, while I understand how Damien's life was forever changed by his blindness, I grew tired of his woe is me song and dance. For someone who is supposedly a shrewd businessman, I would have expected him to have overcome the adversity a little more. Depression has its place, but so does rising to the occasion and not letting things beyond your control utterly defeat you. In two years' time, I would have liked to have seen him come to terms with his disability and not have it define him. I was also baffled by his sometime use of a wheelchair. With blindness being his only long-term effect from the accident, how does that help?

Lisa was likable enough, a woman with a good sense of morality. She comes into the story also hesitant to trust because of a situation with a former co-worker. Suffice it to say, she's not big on mixing work with pleasure either.

But the attraction proves too much for either of them to handle and here we are introduced to the steamy scenes in the book. They are descriptive, but not as graphic as some I've read.

I loved the fact that this romance was from the hero's point of view. That was what made me pick up the book in the first place. Almost all romances are from the woman's point of view, and this book is delightfully different. Damien's blindness is explored sensitively and makes you empathise with his emotions of having to adjust to the handicap that has changed his life completely and makes an independent man have to depend on others.

Nor is Lisa your demure, lip-biting heroines. She gives as good as she gets and in the same way is passionate and compassionate. The chemistry between the two builds up over the book as Damien slowly starts depending on her and trusting her. Reading about the tension and build up of romance from a man's point of view is very refreshing. This book is an easy read and quite engrossing!

Ju Ephraime has given us a well-crafted story of two damaged people fighting their mutual but inconvenient attraction to each other.

Damien was blinded in an industrial accident and Lisa was hired to be his caretaker. Although they fight it at first, because of the employer-employee relationship, what they feel for each other is too hard to resist. The author builds the story slowly, so when they finally give in to their desires, the reader is ready for them to take that step.

The sex scenes are tastefully done and an integral part of the plot, not thrown in for sheer titillation, unlike so many other books on the market today.

I enjoyed reading this book and will be adding other books from Ju Ephraime to my TBR list.

A fascinating romance between a blind man and his nurse/assistant. Both have been seriously damaged by past relationships so are fearful of trusting their instincts. Damien was dumped by his trophy girlfriend because he lost his sight and Lisa almost became part of a set-up put together by a hot and very new boyfriend to prove to his friends how good he was at getting his way. Now Damien and Lisa dance warily around each other, wanting to take the relationship further and yet fearful of more hurt. How they work around each other is intriguing as is Damien's ability to know exactly where Lisa was in a room by picking up on her violets perfume.

This is a sizzling romance between two wonderful people who find themselves again in each other.

“The Odor of Violet” is not your usual knight in shining armor romance. When Damien went blind, he lost more than just his vision. Without the support of his fiancé at his side, he spent years learning to cope with his new disability until a nurse, Lisa, and her magical scent enters his life and opens a door that had been closed for so long. The tension between the two forms the basis of the story as the reader is pulled right along with them. Although this is a story with many explicit scenes that might not appeal to some readers, “The Odor of Violet” is a true romance with its ups and downs between two injured souls who find love where they least expect it. Those who read the romance genre, will find this to be a highly enjoyable read.
