Homer's "Odyssey" is one of my favorite classics and I was excited to read it on my kindle. I was very disappointed that the formatting of this edition was converted so poorly to an ebook.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Odyssey At Its Worst August 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read the Odyssey before and I thought it would be nice to have it on my kindle. Long story short: I didn't like it. It was badly translated and it sounded like Homer was trying to take English night classes. I read the first page or so, then I couldn't press 'Remove from Device' fast enough. It was like trying to read Latin, and I tried to do that a couple of times so I know what I'm talking about. Plus the format was, well, BAD. If you want a good reference to Homer, try:

Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Oedipus, Jason and the Argonauts and 50+ Legendary Books: ULTIMATE GREEK AND ROMAN MYTHOLOGY COLLECTION

Just another poorly reproduced, public-domain translation. Do yourself a favor and buy the newer, modern translation in a quality, Kindle-ready edition. If you love this work and want a free, just in case I need it copy, this version may serve your needs. I found that it interfered with my reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars "I long to be homeward bound" Simon and Garfunkel April 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Trojan War is over and one of our hero kings is lost. His son (Telemachus) travels to find any information about his father's fait. His wife (Penelope) must cunningly hold off suitors that are eating them out of house and home.

If he ever makes it home, Odysseus will have to detect those servants loyal from those who are not. One absent king against rows of suitors; how will he give them their just deserts? We look to Bright Eyed Pallas Athena to help prophecy come true.

Interestingly all the tales of monsters and gods on the sea voyage was told by Odysseus. Notice that no one else survives to tell the tale. Therefore, we have to rely on Odysseus' word.

Many movies took sections of The Odyssey, and expanded them to make interesting stories those selves.

Not just the story but also the way in which it is told will keep you up late at night reading.

Bought this later in a compendium of the odyssey and the iliad. It's pretty good. Not much to say about it, it's definitely a classic worthy of praise.
