This is the Kindle edition?
It would be nice to be able to read it on the Kindle.
Part of the allure to the Old Farmers Almanac
is the unique advertisements but you can't
read the ads on the Kindle edition even after
zooming in. The charts and graphs for
the most part are unreadable.
They will have to do better next year on
the Kindle edition or I'll go back to the
paperback or hardback editions again.
Buy a hard copy and stay away from this edition!
Very disappointing version!

This brings me down memory lane. Nice little articles that are easy. I particularly enjoyed articles about growing veggies over the winter. I working my way through the weather section

My grandmother sent me my first Old Farmer's Almanac back in 1967. I have either been given one or bought my own every year since. The many facts and figures helped teach me about astronomy. I was so glad to be able to get this through Amazon for the first time this year - and it is the Bookstore Edition as well!

For the past few years I have been buying The Old Farmer's Almanac for my friend who loves to read. The friend likes to look up weather for dates that they plan to travel on fun week end trips. Most of the time the Almanac is correct on the weather forcast. That makes my friend happy. The Old Farmer's Almanac is a nice gift to give, lots of good information inside.

This review is of the softcover (non-Kindle) version of THE OLD FARMER'S ALMANAC 2012. This year in particular I was struck at its combination of tradition and modernity. The book uses pretty much the same cover and horizontal day-by-day calendar layout as the early ones back in the late 18th Century, and it even retains the punch-hole at the upper right of the book, in case you should want to hang one by a string in the outhouse. The advertising varies from modern chain saws and pesticides to appeals for divination and lucky lottery-winning amulets. The articles, which are always fun, cover topics such as feral hogs, how to pack baked goods for mailing, and way too much information about spit (saliva). As always, articles and tips for gardening, fishing, and cooking abound, as well as weather trivia and events, not to mention standard almanac features such as Saints' days and feast days, the tides, moon phases and such.

The biggest bone of contention with readers probably has to do with the accuracy of 2012's weather predictions, and that of past years. To be fair, look at the beginning of this section (p. 200) and you'll see that folklore holds a minimal place compared to computer modeling and recent statistics in drawing up weather prognostications. Moreover, all the FARMER'S ALMANAC predictions have to do is be slightly above average, and according to the editors of this almanac 2011 put them above average. (Don't give up your NOAA radio or WeatherBug, though.) To me, much more helpful is the segmenting of the continental USA into 16 climate zones. For example, Virginia straddles four of them: the Southeast (Norfolk), the Atlantic Corridor (Richmond), the Appalachians (Roanoke) and at the extreme western end of the state, the Ohio River Valley (Norton).

I grew up with this in our home in New England. As an adult, I have always had a copy every year. Not only is it filled with all kinds of information/tips/help but its just fun to read. From when to plant, what the weather will be at home, and if you travel, what to expect where you are going. This book is just loaded with so much and it is well worth the little bit of money one has to spend.

The Kindle edition of "The Old Farmer's Almanac" is horrible! I purchased it earlier today, but requested a refund within 5 minutes. The formatting is not at all up to par with what I've come to expect from a Kindle e-book, and the majority of content seems to be advertisements that are extremely difficult to read. Stick with the paper version and don't waste your money on this Kindle version.

I like and buy the Old Farmers Almanac. I hoped the Kindle edition would be as readable as the print version but it was not.
The advertising was copied from the print version but being reduced in size was unreadable for the smaller fonts.
The photographs that were color in the print versions came out mostly muddy grays in the kindle version.
The photographs also end up out of focus in the kindle version.
Articles on two occasions ended with a blank page and two pages had the word "advertisement" on them and nothing else.
The almanac with its very compact table of sun and moon rise and set times and moon phases and bits of calendar trivia was copied and compressed from the print version. The fonts end up smaller and light gray on the kindle so that it takes a bright light and 3x reading glasses for me to make out column headings. I should be able to read these with out glasses and 20/20 vision or in my case with my normal reading glasses.
The almanac and weather sections need to have both a table of contents entry for each month/region and have location tags in the TOC.NCX so the reader can jump forward month by month and region by region using the 5 way conroller.
I love my kindle and like the information in the Old Farmers Almanac. I hope they will reformat it to work nicely on the kindle. I especially would like to see the almanac pages corrected for my location available on the kindle.
