I have used this cookbook so much that the binding is falling apart.
When I have cooked an apple pie from scratch, I have used the recipes for the pie and for the pastry. Every time that I made the pie, people who have eaten it say that it is the best apple pie that they have eaten.

I love it so much I stole it from my parents (who got it as a present from my grandma on their wedding). I would love it if they reprinted it-- mine is full of tape and tape marks.

The cakes section is divine. I did not know what a good cake tasted like before we started making them from this book. The breads are delicious, especially the holiday breads. Cookies are ok, but hit or miss. The meats are awesome. The meals are awesome. The appetizers are awesome... Just a wonderful wonderful cookbook all around. We're still going through all the recipes.

I bought this cookbook in the 1970s and it quickly became and still is my favorite cookbook. I have used it so much that the spine is giving out so I have been looking for another copy of it before it completely falls apart. I read in other reviews that there are many of us who feel the same way and wish that the book would be republished. The used copy I received was not the best and I am somewhat disappointed, but it will at least be the backup I need.

I have owned this cookbook for over 30 years and it is still my favorite. I'm buying a copy for my nephew who has just gotten into cooking and has been asking for family recipes. These recipes are the closest I have ever found to the ones served by my mother's family. I was tempted to buy two copies since mine is falling apart but I'd lose the notes I've written in the margins. I highly recommend this book!

I bought this cookbook at the University of Oregon bookstore so long ago.It was my first cookbook!

Sadly, the spine just came apart but since there appears to be no new publishing in sight I will tape it! Two of our favorites include the Old Dominion Creamed Chicken (lightened up)and the sour cream cookies. And of course I love reading the brief history of many of the recipes.

I'm in total agreement with the first two reviews. This was the first cookbook I purchased after I got married. The old one is well used, splattered and falling apart so I did buy another copy. It's still the best cookbook ever. I can't tell you how many old family favorites come from this book.

I have owned this cookbook for 27 years and think it is the best one on my shelf. I always refer to it & can think of only one recipe that I wasn't completely happy with in the whole book. My book is falling apart now but is still usable - which is why I can't bring myself to replace it for $45!

This was one of my mother's cookbooks and now it's mine. As with all her cookbooks, it's stuffed with hand-written copies of recipes, cards and letters from friends and relatives, newspaper clippings, etc., and the book is held closed with two wide rubberbands to keep all those things from falling out. Just like my mother, I have the same kinds of things stuffed inside my own cookbooks. When I sit down to find a recipe, I end up going on a sentimental journey while rereading all the other goodies I find tucked between the pages.

That said, this is the best cookbook on my shelves, and believe me, my shelves are groaning under the weight of all those cookbooks! The dustjacket is torn and stained, some of pages inside don't look much better, but this book is worth its weight in gold to me. I wish I could find new copies to buy for friends.
