Fantastic! I have been waiting for this soundtrack to be released, ever since first seeing the movie, back in the early 70's. The entire score was included, and even a couple pieces that did not make it into the movie.

This is hands-down among my favorite film scores from the Seventies. I'll admit that's an odd statement, for the film is itself more cult than classic and has not stood the test of time too well. When I first saw it at its first run in a Pittsburgh movie theater I remembered most of all the music. After so many years (with some intervening TV broadcasts) I was very surprised to quickly and vividly recall the imagery to which each track of this "Version 2.0 Unlimited" was set. That, after all, is what a film score is for! And this "re-remastering" appears very much a labor of love from people who appreciate the original as well as the profession and its preservation. Visit the Film Score Monthly Web site for more comprehensive liner notes. Hat's off to all involved!
Trivia bonus: Ron Grainer is credited with the driving theme and other background music to The Prisoner, Patrick McGoohan's syndicated TV series from the late Sixties that's a justified cult classic. If you recall that series' music you doubtless will find parts of this score familiar. View The Omega Man and study one scene where Charlton Heston's Neville visits the enclave of "unchanged" survivors outside Los Angeles. Do you recognize his vehicle?

Got it for my husband who was looking for this CD for years. This was not sold for quite a long time and it was brought out for sale recently. It may e a limited time edition so if you like it, it's best to get it while you can. It is a fun type of music to listen to since it has a " dated music style". My husband loves the CD.

I could go into a lot of detail about this CD and what's on it, and you'd only be getting a fraction of the story; instead, I'll recommend that you visit Film Score Monthly's website and download the liner notes for this album. It's the most comprehensive and fascinating account of a soundtrack album (its original creation and its recreation) I've ever seen.
What I can tell you is that it sounds fantastic and I hope that the staff at FSM/Screen Archives Entertainment feels their efforts were worthwhile. I think so. I am ecstatic to have this soundtrack finally. It's nice to know there are other people out there who share my love for this movie and its amazing music. Thank you, FSM and SAE. The whole Family can't bring you down!

The Omega Man 2.0 Unlimited
The Omega Man has one of my favorite soundtracks out of movies made in the 1970s. The soundtrack consists of a mixture of slower music, some more upbeat faster music as in the theme song. I would recommend this album to soundtrack fans. |
