I know what you're thinking . . . "One Stop Guide To Jesus . . . . REALLY!!?? You're telling me that after 2000 years THIS is the ONE SOURCE to find out about JESUS!!?? (ok how about this for a sales pitch . . ."JEEPERS I DON'T HAVE TIME TO LOOK FOR JESUS IN EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY!!!! CAN'T I GET MY JESUS ALL IN ONE PLACE!!?? . . . WELL NOW YOU CAN! . . . ONE STOP GUIDE TO JESUS DOES IT ALL!!"

So anyway . . . I would view this book as an awesome author meets the book selling marketing realities of today . . .

Honestly this is one of the best books I've read in quite a while. It's not a coffee table book, but it is designed like one, and is interesting and attention holding like both a coffee table book and a "for dummies" book. I found the author's theology, spirituality and historicism to be conscientious, thorough, apolitical and never condescending. There is also no division or favoritism of protestant/catholic. If there is a bias here . . . it's that the author clearly believes Jesus is who he said he was.

This story of Jesus is well organized, straight forward and when read straight through almost overwhelmingly powerful. A book like this makes me wonder . . . if only the coffee table book people would get together more often with the Christian book people . . . there might be a few more Christians. I can't think of anyone I wouldn't recommend this book to.

This is a very attractive book, well laid out with lots of illustrations (photographs, maps etc) alongside fairly short text sections. It aims to introduce newcomers to Christianity, alongside those who may be long-term Christians, to Jesus' life, his ministry and his legacy.

It's a very easy read with some well-chosen images, such as paintings, to illustrate the text. It gives information on life in Judea in Roman times, setting Jesus' teaching in its Jewish context.

I felt that at times it was over-simplistic, giving rather facile answers to some textual difficulties, which gave me the impression that the book is written from the more conservative wing of the church. The writing style would be easy for teenagers to understand although the design of the book doesn't perhaps lend itself to this.

In conclusion, this is a well-researched and attractive book but this reader found that it rather 'dumbed down' or answered too simplistically many of the genuine issues that seekers may find with the New Testament and the church's subsequent teaching.
