Tony Gooden, a confirmed bachelor and Chicago radio executive, has his world disrupted when he runs into his college sweetheart, Serena Kincaid. Ten years earlier, he crashed Serena's wedding and has never been able to get over her. After experiencing a near-death accident that left him walking with a cane, Tony leaves the country to do something good by volunteering on an economic-development project in Ghana. After Tony rebuffs the chief's daughter, he shares his dilemma about Serena with him. The chief advises him to find out whether Serena's feelings match his but tread with respect and caution. Tony accepts a position in Serena's hometown and puts his plan into action. His mission is in jeopardy when an accuser claims he misused his power and position. He also discovers that winning Serena back will not be simple because she has unresolved issues with her husband and daughter.
