About the Author

Stuart Briscoe was born in Millom, Cumbria, England in 1930, graduated from high school at the age of 17, and promptly embarked on a career in banking. He studied law, economics, and accounting in his spare time and eventually became personal assistant to the Chief Inspector of the bank. He started preaching at age 17. In 1970, Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, WI, U.S.A. asked Stuart to become pastor. The church has since grown to a weekly attendance in excess of 7,000 and has planted eight sister churches in the Milwaukee area. Elmbrook's TV and radio ministries-Telling the Truth, featuring Stuart and Jill are broadcast widely--while his extensive video and audio tapes and more then 40 books extend his ministry. He has stepped down as Senior Pastor and is now Minister-at-Large.

More About the Author

Stuart Briscoe was born in Millom, Cumbria, England in 1930, graduated from high school at the age of 17, and promptly embarked on a career in banking. He studied law, economics, and accounting in his spare time and eventually became personal assistant to the chief inspector of the bank. Also at the age of 17, he started to preach. For 12 years, preaching and his banking career kept him fully occupied.

During the Korean War he was drafted into the Royal Marines. In 1959, he and his wife, Jill, a school teacher, left the business world to share in the ministry of the Torchbearers--a youth organization reaching out to the far corners of the world. Stuart's travels took him all over the world, while Jill looked after their three children: David, Judy, and Peter.

In 1970, Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, U.S.A,. asked Stuart to become pastor. The church has since grown to a weekly attendance in excess of 7,000 and has planted 8 sister churches in the Milwaukee area. Elmbrook's TV and radio ministries, Telling the Truth, feature Stuart and Jill and are widely broadcast. Stuart's ministry is further extended by his extensive video and audio tapes and more then 40 books. After 30 years as senior pastor at Elmbrook Church, Stuart stepped down. He and Jill have assumed the roles of ministers-at-large on Elmbrook's church staff.

Various schools have honored him with honorary doctorates, and God has blessed Stuart and Jill with 13 grandchildren. He has preached in more than 100 countries and is invited to minister to pastors, missionaries, and church lay leaders on all continents.

In his spare time he likes to read, run, garden, and enjoy God's creation.

I have tried to find a good daily devotional for years. Most of the "men centered" devotionals were too heavy on sports and hunting analogies which, is so tiresome. Other devotionals were too author opinionated and rarely focused on the daily scripture topic. Then there were others that read like commentaries and required two, three chapters worth of reading. I wanted something that I could use to supplement my other study.

I was looking for a daily dose of scripture with a reaffirming thought topic for the day. This title is what I was looking for! It provides encouraging and correcting scripture readings taken throughout the Bible along with relevant, related, and practical comments. The readings are not too short nor too long.

As of 2011, I will begin my 3rd reading of this book. The pages are dog eared and highlighted but I will gladly continue reading it until I have to purchase a newer copy. I have three boys growing into men and they will be receiving copies soon. It's a great devotional for men ages 10 to 100.

This is by far the best devotional I've found yet. I have search for a devotional that mixes a scripture reading with insightful application and had been fairly unsuccessful until now. I have been reading this daily on my Pocket PC and completely love it. There are times I want to call all my friends to tell them about what I've read. I have been a Christian for many years and have solid understanding of the word. Taking that into account, I don't know how great it would be for a new/baby Christian. Nonetheless, I have tried many devotionals and this is my favorite by far!

This is a great devotional book written specifically for men. Each day it gives some scripture to read and then a devotional for the day that goes along with the scripture. While it is intended for men to read through chronologically, it also has a very helpful index in the back that allows a man to quickly find devotions on various topics. The index is broken down into various easy to use categories. Though all the devotionals are helpful, there are a number on communication that are very extremely useful. There are also quite a few good ones on faithfulness and some on how to avoid evil. This book will not disappoint.

This is an excellent devotional; concise, yet rich. I have not read the whole thing, but what I have read so far as quickened my heart for God and inspired me to live a more Godly life. I particularly like the readers on the CD.
