Shane & Shane
Bring Your Nothing

Seven days. Seven guys. 22 acres. That’s what it took to craft the 11 tracks on Shane & Shane’s new album, Bring Your Nothing (Fair Trade Services). The two longtime friends and business partners recently purchased an old house that sits on 22 acres in Cedar Hill, Texas—a suburb of Dallas—and have turned it into a ... 3.0 out of 5 stars Experimental October 26, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
Many listeners who have followed Shane & Shane from the beginning would agree that with the release "Everything Is Different" the Shanes have clearly ventured towards a more mainstream approach. This release takes that one step further. The previous reviewers mentioned that they had never purchased a S&S album before and that makes sense. I'm sure this album will draw many new fans to the duo. As for the music, there is quite a bit less acoustic guitar on this album. Instead, there is more use of strings and even a few organ sections. This album is by far their most experimental release to date, whereas 'Everything Is Different' was more praise and worship driven.
I am one of the biggest S&S fans out there. I own every album, I see the guys every chance I get and I fully support their music and message. The way they convey Christ to our hearts is a blessing and so unlike many other Christian artists out there. This album doesn't connect with me the way the others have, but that's not to say that will be your case. Hopefully their music will continue to draw believers closer to Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe no one has reviewed this yet - AWESOME October 10, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
I rarely write reviews, and I've never purchased another Shane and Shane album, but I was immediately touched and blown away by this music. It touched my heart in a fresh way and breaks the Christian music mold. This is powerful, authentic, worship written by human beings who ache, and wonder, and marvel at the vast and complex beauty and power of God. I have listened to it at least 10 times in one week. It is beautiful, worth every penny.

3.0 out of 5 stars Must agree with "Aaron B. Cuneio "The Gill" December 5, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I must say... and don't get me wrong. This is a great album, and by no means a bad album. It's just that, the first time I heard Shane & Shane was at a friend's place where he turned on "An Evening with Shane & Shane", and I was all sold. I ordered that album that night.
It was the beautiful acoustic arrangements that I loved (at that time, i wasn't too religious, but still loved the music). That album was what got me to deviate from playing electric guitar to go get an acoustic guitar.
The first time I heard this new album, I liked the songs. But something felt different. It wasn't something that left me dazed. It kinda sounded like some songs that would just randomly come on a radio, you would enjoy it, then the next song plays and you sorta forget about it until it randomly comes on again...
I must agree with Aaron B. Cuneio "The Gill" that it sounds like Shane & Shane have gone a bit mainstream... which is a bit of a shame, just like when any indie band or underground stuff tries to go mainstream. Not that this new album is now generic, but that it's going towards being generic.

Still gotta love shane & shane though.

The latest release from Shane and Shane contains songs that have solid Biblical content. Shane and Shane manage to create encouraging little teaching sessions, but you will not feel preached at.

The release starts with the rousing and emotional "Liberty". This is the best song on the record with a fascinating mix of instruments. The theme of the song can be found in the chorus:

For freedom You set me free
And yes, I am free indeed
You rewrote my name
And shackled my shame
You opened my eyes to see
I am free

And there are other outstanding songs on this album.

"Miracles" presents an interesting take on the type of miracle most of us need in our day to day lives and "Grace is Sufficient" is a song about trusting God with whatever happens in our lives.

No doubt about it, this is a well done recording on all levels and contains some interesting music (the instrumental break in "Future Version" is an example). The only downside is that the record in parts is somewhat over produced and this may serve, for some, to detract from the well written songs. Simpler production qualities would have made the beauty and depth of the songs more evident.

The One You Need contains quite a mix of styles but the overall feel is pop-oriented, not that there is anything wrong with that. It's a matter of taste.

Well done pop music can be very effective. But over produced and "shiny" music tends to be a distraction. The One You Need does not go that far, but it may have served the record better to pull back on the throttle in places.

Interestingly, Shane and Shane have posted stripped down acoustic versions of five songs from the album on their website. It's worth listening to these versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Shane & Shane's better productions December 4, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Shane and Shane's signature sound, which honestly can get a bit much on some of their other albums, is near perfectly executed this time around. "The One You Need" seems a bit more mainstream pop oriented, making for a pleasant listening experience across the whole album. The whole family is enjoying this one.

I recommend getting this whole album instead of just the popular tracks.

If you haven't been blessed by the vertical expression of these two harmonious men of God - your time has arrived. Seriously - you owe it to yourself to acquire their entire library!

As a worship leader myself (with decades of experience), few have the true anointing that they do!

I met them years ago when someone gave me their first CD and said I reminded them of the Shane's style of (passionate) worship. I then had a chance to visit with them at a worship leaders conference and have seen them live several times since...

Also - GET THEIR CD/DVD "An Evening with Shane & Shane"...it is incredible!
