1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Prefuse 73 album
I've been listening to Prefuse 73 for years, I have Security Screenings, Preparations, Extinguished. I've loved every single one of his albums until now.

Only She Chapters is a complete letdown, it's too dreamy and random noises. I've always liked Prefuse 73 because of his ability to make actual songs, lets get one thing straight here in this album are not...

4.0 out of 5 stars fractured & rhythmic avant-psychedelic symphonies, June 21, 2011
This review is from: Only She Chapters (Audio CD)
8th release from this New York City based hip-hop producer-cum-experimental composer, aka
Scott Herren, who has also recorded as Savath & Savalas, Delarosa & Asora. These are highly
detailed, fractured & rhythmic avant-psychedelic symphonies that mix a twisted sense of chaotic
melody with dissident, unconventional arrangements. They are often dreamy & haunted,
bordering on bedlam, with otherworldly textures & progressions that are focused on the
processed female voice--with contributions from Zola Jesus, Shara Worden (My Brightest
Diamond), Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors), Trish Keenan (Broadcast), and others. It's a
scary/stunning post-classical nightmare of manipulated siren songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new muse, September 23, 2011
This review is from: Only She Chapters (Audio CD)
In The Forest of Sensitivity and now the Only She Chapters, Prefuse 73 has dumped the stale hip-hop jargon in favour of ethereal female vocalisations, sometimes harmonised (... Guitar to Die For, ... Hand to Hold), sometimes fractured (... Trial of 9000 Suns), sometimes absent (... Valentine's Day Failure). Inspiring some of the best electronic work I've heard from Herren, the choir's obviously got his creative juices flowing (and vice versa). This release may take a few listens to fully grow on you (as it did for me), but that's only an adjustment to a better chapter (oops) in his musical career. My ears just can't put this book down.

4.0 out of 5 stars surprising, adventurous..., May 25, 2011

on first listen, was not sure about this; i love the 'old' prefuse 73 (the early, glitchy, hiphop stuff).
"ampexian" didn't work for me; too...something about it (prog-rock? busy?); i don't remember, i deleted it.

but this... more 'goth-electronica' than say glitchy hiphop, and...i'm loving it. dreamy female vocals floating about, dense keyboards, more texture than song structure mostly.

so, different, but worthwhile. definitely worth listening to.

it's a great time for new music (toro y moi, oh no ono, the weeknd, etc). this fits right in to '2011"...

Only She Chapters is a complete letdown, it's too dreamy and random noises. I've always liked Prefuse 73 because of his ability to make actual songs, lets get one thing straight here in this album are not songs they're just meaningless NOISE. I want songs not white noise. Security Screenings, Preparations and One Word Extinguisher are Prefuse 73's best works because the songs aren't just noise, each one works to a new level, each song has meaning.

All I heard was noise in Only She Chapters.
