The Opportunists, by Yohann De Silva is a thrilling ride through the customs and culture of black market Uzbekistan! The twists and turns in this well developed plot, make this book hard to put down. I found the characters to be intriguing and well developed, and the cultural and geographic details presented in an interesting and informative way. The writing is top notch, making it hard to believe this is a first novel!! Can't wait to read what De Silva puts out next.

Great new action book by first time author, Yohann de Silva. De Silva gets things rolling in the first few pages and doesn't stop. What really makes the book unique is the embedded lessons on culture of a country few Americans even know exists. As a `fiction based on fact' fan, I must also commend de Silva on his accurate timeline and as well as his `feel' for the attitudes of the people at those times. I am looking forward to his next project!

This was the most fast paced, action packed book that I have ever read. It is tough to put down and I was able to read it in two days. It should definitely be turned into a movie.

This novel was also enjoyable because it took a leap into parts of the world many Americans are unfamiliar with. Central Asia has a sort of mystical air about it and I really enjoyed learning about the different people, customs, unique cities, and history of that distant land as the action jumped from Afghanistan, to NYC, to Uzbekistan. The descriptions of the bazaars and life in Uzbekistan were the most interesting. The author's experience in that region of the world was crucial to bring a realistic feel to his writing. As I read I could almost hear the carpet merchants selling their wares and smell the food at the street side cafe.

The word "opportunity" was subtly interwoven into the novel and each character, as may people in real life, were each seeking an opportunity. The author did a magnificent job developing each character and sub-plot then jumping to the next character's story, all while keeping the reader itching to turn the next page to see how all of the characters are connected. There are several sudden twists to the book that keep it interesting and I would recommend this novel to anyone.

The Opportunists is a page turner for sure, I didn't want to put it down. It is filled with interesting characters each with their own interesting story, all of the stories are beautifully interwoven to form this novel. Not to mention it is filled with cultural references which gives the reader a greater understanding of Uzbekistan.

Book was recommended by a friend. He was right, a great book. I found myself looking for excuses to sneak away from a family function to read it and figure out what is happening next. Interesting characters, unusual setting make for a unique book. Will be interesting to see what this guy puts out next.
