Review

Gregory Sherl's The Oregon Trail is The Oregon Trail is a sexualized and romanticized collection of poems that invites its readers (such as myself) who may not have ever played the infamous "educational” video game as children, into the world of fording rivers and expressive oxen." Word Riot

"… eminently likable… Sherl's book is saved from being just another clever project, though, by how funny and fresh and irreverent his poems are.” The Believer

"But where many of his contemporaries cultivate dispassion, and distance, Sherl barely contains his force. Under the punchlines there is a depth of raw emotion and obsession in short supply these days, and his passion is refreshing, heartening, addictive.” The Rumpus --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Astonishing, the way these poems move, scatter and regather. They are just plain delicious, thought provoking, smart and engaging. They entertain, they make you think, they make you wish you could do this. At the very least you can read them. Enjoy. And you will. Talk about your up and comer ... keep an eye on Sherl.

One of the best collections I've read in a long time! Gregory Sherl works magic on words, but more importantly emotions. He gives us truth, vulnerability and the unexpected, always! A treasure! Hope everyone gets a copy of this! I keep it on my desk for inspiration! Exceptional!

Gregory Sherl's work is some of the most exciting poetry I have read in a long time. When I purchased this book, I didn't realize that Sherl's theme was literally based on a computer game from elementary school. However, I didn't get sick of reading about fording the Kansas river, in fact I found myself wanting to hear more and more about it. Sherl's words started to haunt me, I found myself impressed by his imagination and imagery. This is the best book of poetry I have read in a long, long time. Highly recommended.
