Upon putting the bike together we found that it was missing a part.

After calling the phone number and being told to go to the website, I found out that we had to wait 5-7 days before we would be contacted.

I wouldn't be complaining if I was buying from a consignment shop, but we paid full retail and this is so unprofessional!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! Only giving 1 Star because I cannot give ZERO stars.

The only thing this product has in common with the "Original" Big Wheel is the name and stickers (which Alpha International and Gamma 2 apparently bought, hoping to cash in on the nostalgia-market of my demographic).

By my count a full 20 of the 46 (43%) reviews on Target.com reported missing parts. This review makes 21 (& bumps the percentage to 45%). That is an unacceptable failure rate, and does not even account the negative reviews relating to the near-impossibility of actually putting the big wheel together.

We purchased this toy for our son for Christmas. Building it prior to Christmas, I discovered the big wheel was missing the axle. Thank you, Target, Alpha International, and Gamma 2 for leaving me to explain to my 2 1/2 year old that he could not have the one thing for which he actually asked, because "Santa goofed." When I was finally able to get a hold of someone who could take an order for a new part, I was shipped two rear wheels, not the axle needed. Another phone call resulted in the delivery of an EMPTY container, so poorly packaged that the axle slid out while in transit. Today I finally received the axle and again tried to build the gift (a full FOURTEEN days after Christmas). On my first attempt to insert the seat posts into the corresponding holes on the frame of the big wheel, the right post broke.

The "customer service" number in the instructions is a joke; all Big Wheel inquiries must be made via[...], which advises that there is a 5-7 lead time before they can / will respond. Target's corporate call center was less than helpful, giving the standard "so sorry to hear that" line without offering much in the way of resolution.

My parents bought this for my 3-yr-old son as he had outgrown his traditional trike. After watching my older brother and I ride our Big Wheel for about 5 yrs total 30 yrs ago), they figured this was the way to go....

WRONG!!

As other reviewers have stated, the only thing this toy has in common with the original Mattel item is the name. While all the parts were included, it did come with instructions, and only took about 20 min to assemble, it's one of the flimsiest ride-on toys that any of us have ever seen. The plastic is so thin that it won't support any weight - even our 37 lb 3-yr-old causes it to sag!

If we had been smart, we would have started out with the Radio Flyer product that we ended up with - and saved ourselves the time and money.

This sure brings back Memories of the one I had 30 years ago. My two year old loves his. It was easy to put together and came with sufficient instruction necessary to assemble. I had my son's put together in 10 minutes and its seen months of hard use since with no damage or failures.

A mallet is helpful in assembling.

We purchased this product for our son recently. Upon putting the bike together we found that it was missing a part. We tried to call the number on the instructions to have them sent to us however the company referred us to their website. At the website it then tells us to wait 5-7 days before expecting a response from them. We will bring it back to the store rather than deal with the slow, poor customer service of the toy maker.

Don't buy your big wheel from Playthings Past!!! They shipped it out from their store and the big wheel box was completely destroyed!!! The exterior box was perfect then my husband and I went to open the box and the big wheel box inside looked like it had been opened and retaped multiple times and there appeared to be a couple of return shipping stickers on the box!!!! I am glad we ordered early and checked opened the big wheel early before my son's 3rd birthday and in time to order from a different company!!! I wouldn't be complaining if I was buying from a consignment shop, but we paid full retail and this is so unprofessional!!! The box looked like it was eaten by a forklift!!!

BAD JOB PLAYTHINGS PAST!!!!!

This is the cheapest piece of junk imaginable. The only thing more frustrating than the ill-fitting parts are the horrific instructions which, as Geoffrey Rush would say, are more like guidelines than actual directions. If you're thinking of purchasing this, let me describe what you're in for: you will spend a weekend hammering oversized cheap pieces into undersized, misaligned holes while cursing at instructions that were written to infuriate you. So, go right ahead and buy this if you enjoy skyrocketing blood pressure, unending frustration and cursing in front of your children. Some things are best left in the 70's - and, I hate to rain on the original big wheel's parade, but an "original" piece of junk is still a piece of junk.

Verified Purchase
I wish I had all the previous reviews to read before I Purchased this item from Amazon. Two parts were faulty, so its missing one pedal and one tire, which makes it worthless. The phone # provided with the directions says its no longer affiliated with the company. Amazon won't take it back because we bought it mid-October for Christmas, we are out $65+ dollars and have a disappointed 3 year old. Very poor quality and customer service.
