For 30 years, the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine has symbolized summer fun. First introduced in 1979, this nostalgic toy lets children create treats to help them beat the heat. Just place an ice cube in the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine, and watch it transform into a delicious dessert with a few turns of the handle. Kids can even flavor their creations with the included Flavor-Aid or with their favorite juice or soda.

Product Description

Enjoy the fun of making and eating sno-cones at home with the ever-popular Snoopy Sno-Cone Maker, circa 1979! Just add sugar, water, and ice cubes to make a sweet icy treat. Crank out more flavored sno - cones with orange juice, grape juice, lemonade, and soft drinks. Includes sno-cone maker, sno-man ice pusher, syrup bottle, 3 paper cups, shovel scoop, and instructions. For ages 6 and up

It was very disheartening. momof3  |  5 reviewers made a similar statement
The included "flavor packet" is powder that you must mix with sugar and water to make the syrup. P. Rothstein  |  4 reviewers made a similar statement

2.0 out of 5 stars Brings back memories, but VERY cheaply made. December 11, 2009

This Snoopy SnoCone Machine is just like the one you probably had as a kid! I bought it for a 4 year old neice who LOVES all things Snoopy. I was so excited about the gift because I remembered having one as a child. The thing I did not remember, however, was how hard this thing is to use. A child could not use it alone, as it takes massive amounts of strength and endurance to get just a little bit of ice shaved for a tiny little snocone. No wonder the cups that come with it are so small. Also, it is plastic, so you feel like the thing is going to break apart at any minute while you are exerting said massive strength! It looks neat sitting on the shelf, but this is not functional AT ALL!

Photos do exist of me and my crew using this baby twenty plus years ago...yes, I am a diehard fan, now in my late thirties. Flash foward to the mid-nineties, when I was experiencing a "vintage toy" revival episode, and bought the above toy instead of a "Misfits" doll (yeah, yeah, I know that the Misfits are technically '77/"vintage punk", but the dolls felt so "Hot Topic", plus they did not even exist in my salad days, thus, were not part of my world in early childhood). So, my sno-cone maker remained close to my soul, although not to my hands...until two summers ago, when I decided to let my children behold the wonders of the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine. Here goes: Unless your kid is a version of Andre the Giant or is a tween, they will have trouble using it, thus, this sno-cone maker is ironically used by humans who will not lick their lips in anticipation. I do remember having trouble engaging the locking rings which keep the grinder in place with the rotating handle when I was younger, but now it's a breeze. Other reviewers mentioned that this sno-cone maker is fragile and flimsy, and I beg to differ...ours has held up just fine after numerous uses, and the plastic does not feel weak/flimsy to me (I do want to mention here that I own the Hasbro version; mine appears exactly as the above pic). It's still the same as it was when Velcro was hot.

Some Tips/Methods:
-Have lots of sugar and Kool-Aid packets on hand...it's fun to make your own syrup. Leftover syrup can be refrigerated for one week.
-Use paper "bathroom" cups (mini paper Dixies) for the sno-cone containers; the ground/shaved ice will plop down right into these cups with ease.
-Have two spoons on hand, one for syrup (see note on snowman below), and one for scooping out ice (included shovel is just O.K.).
-Have bowl of ice on counter for easy access, if they start to melt, pray for an ice-maker if you do not have one, or one that is fully stocked if you are low (ice that is too melted doesn't cut it).
-Put on your air conditioner if you sweat alot like me, or if you want the bowl of ice on the counter not to melt so fast (see above).
-Have rags ready if you are like me and too cheap/semi-eco to put on the air conditioner- both you and the ice could possibly melt (see above).
-Make sure grinder and handle rings interlock.
-Only grind one whole cube at a time. It is not as tedious as it sounds. You do not have to make the cube smaller in any way beforehand- that's the job of the machine, and I have found that the smaller chips do make the whole process more difficult in general.
-Hold down Snoopy's head/hat while cranking handle. Trust me, you will know when to exert more or less pressure. And, you do not need "massive strength" to do so...I am a general wimp; my arms get tired very quickly in a Goodwill looking at rows of clothes above my hobbit height, and I do not get tired workin' Snoopy. (Beg your pardon, words in quotations are from another reviewer.)
- Check inside chamber once in a while to make sure that stray ice chips are not holding up the works. You will be able to tell so, don't worry...eg.the grinder will rotate begrudgingly, or the grinder will spin too quickly with little shaving action. Just loosen them with a butter knife, and then shake them out.
-Forget the cute snowman for syrup dispension- he is too stiff for squeezing action that would release the syrup (at least ours is; my old school one did work back in the day).
-If too much melted ice is used, Snoopy will quit (yes, again, you will know).
-Dry the disassembled machine on a towel; rotate pieces to all sides within two days to get all sides dry.

Last, but not least, put on some Snoopy tunes and eat up. Syrup will stain everything in sight, especially if your kids are like "Pig-Pen". Just yell at your kids in that adult, "waa waaaa whop" (at least that's how I hear it) voice from the Snoopy/Peanuts specials. Then hug each other with Snoopy passion, and close down the sno-cone shop.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless piece of junk May 29, 2010
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I can't believe they're still selling this toy, apparently unimproved since I was a child 30 years ago. It takes a ridiculous amount of effort to get a tiny bit of shaved ice, which is likely to melt before you can halfway fill a Dixie cup. Especially since the handle assembly is likely to fall apart at least twice in the process. Very disappointing for the kids - I'm just glad it was a gift and not something I spent my money on.
