For 30 years, the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine has symbolized summer fun. First introduced in 1979, this nostalgic toy lets children create treats to help them beat the heat. Just place an ice cube in the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine, and watch it transform into a delicious dessert with a few turns of the handle. Kids can even flavor their creations with the included Flavor-Aid or with their favorite juice or soda.

2.0 out of 5 stars Brings back memories, but VERY cheaply made. December 11, 2009

This Snoopy SnoCone Machine is just like the one you probably had as a kid! I bought it for a 4 year old neice who LOVES all things Snoopy. I was so excited about the gift because I remembered having one as a child. The thing I did not remember, however, was how hard this thing is to use. A child could not use it alone, as it takes massive amounts of strength and endurance to get just a little bit of ice shaved for a tiny little snocone. No wonder the cups that come with it are so small. Also, it is plastic, so you feel like the thing is going to break apart at any minute while you are exerting said massive strength! It looks neat sitting on the shelf, but this is not functional AT ALL!

Photos do exist of me and my crew using this baby twenty plus years ago...yes, I am a diehard fan, now in my late thirties. Flash foward to the mid-nineties, when I was experiencing a "vintage toy" revival episode, and bought the above toy instead of a "Misfits" doll (yeah, yeah, I know that the Misfits are technically '77/"vintage punk", but the dolls felt so "Hot Topic", plus they did not even exist in my salad days, thus, were not part of my world in early childhood). So, my sno-cone maker remained close to my soul, although not to my hands...until two summers ago, when I decided to let my children behold the wonders of the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine. Here goes: Unless your kid is a version of Andre the Giant or is a tween, they will have trouble using it, thus, this sno-cone maker is ironically used by humans who will not lick their lips in anticipation. I do remember having trouble engaging the locking rings which keep the grinder in place with the rotating handle when I was younger, but now it's a breeze. Other reviewers mentioned that this sno-cone maker is fragile and flimsy, and I beg to differ...ours has held up just fine after numerous uses, and the plastic does not feel weak/flimsy to me (I do want to mention here that I own the Hasbro version; mine appears exactly as the above pic). It's still the same as it was when Velcro was hot.

Some Tips/Methods:
-Have lots of sugar and Kool-Aid packets on hand...it's fun to make your own syrup. Leftover syrup can be refrigerated for one week.
-Use paper "bathroom" cups (mini paper Dixies) for the sno-cone containers; the ground/shaved ice will plop down right into these cups with ease.
-Have two spoons on hand, one for syrup (see note on snowman below), and one for scooping out ice (included shovel is just O.K.).

Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
What a joke. Thoroughly poorly designed and made. Shaving mechanism consists of a flimsy plastic drum with sheets of dull steel riveted onto it, connects via a flimsy plastic ring to a flimsy plastic crank. It is frustrating for an adult to try to shave ice, let alone a child. For the same amount of money, one could buy a real electric ice shaving machine. The included "flavor packet" is powder that you must mix with sugar and water to make the syrup. Absolutely pointless.

For those complaining about how fragile it is when trying to shave ice cubes, I just set our freezer to dispense 'crushed' ice and put the crushed ice in this little gem instead of whole cubes. Shaves it without the risk of breaking the handle, and my 5 yr old doesnt know the difference!

Highly recommended. A lot of fun watching how excited the little ones get.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless piece of junk May 29, 2010
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I can't believe they're still selling this toy, apparently unimproved since I was a child 30 years ago. It takes a ridiculous amount of effort to get a tiny bit of shaved ice, which is likely to melt before you can halfway fill a Dixie cup. Especially since the handle assembly is likely to fall apart at least twice in the process. Very disappointing for the kids - I'm just glad it was a gift and not something I spent my money on.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good if you actually ever want to eat your snow cone November 11, 2012
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This is a horrible product. You can only put one piece of ice in at a time. Shaving that one piece will take at least 5 minutes to get one spoonful. By the time the next ice cube is shaved the first will almost be melted. The handle feels like it will break because you are turning so hard. Save your money or spend an extra $10 to get a real sno-cone maker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun item to use December 24, 2009
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
It is a fun toy. Read the instructions carefully and ensure all parts are attached firmly. Using it to make sno cones is a little difficult for a child. An adult will be required to turn the handle so that the ice is shaved and it will take some time to create a small amount of shaved ice. Overall, it is a fun item - however it will be rather difficult to make many cups of sno cones as a lot of energy is required for that.
Not very functional but does the job for a few cups at a time. It does seem fragile but overall the right amount of force in the correct way will ensure that it does not fall apart.

The length of time it took to get even a small amount of slush was disapointing. The excited anticipationof my 4 yr old
grandson soon trurned to "Is it done yet?"
