Editorial Reviews

- JOHN CARPENTER'S cult classic ghost story was released in 1980 and
is still as creepy and atmospheric now as it was 32 years ago and is
a constant feature of late-night and Halloween TV programming
- This was Carpenter's first feature after the ground-breaking success of
HALLOWEEN and 1 year before the release of the iconic ESCAPE FROM
NEW YORK
- The original Silva Screen release expanded on the soundtrack that cameout at the time by including an additional 20 minutes of previously
unreleased music plus contemporary interview with star Jamie Leigh Curtis
- That out-of-print release forms DISC ONE of this new release. That
album was compiled and edited from the complete score. DISC TWO presents the entire score drawn from the original tapes and re-mastered
by long-time Carpenter collaborator ALAN HOWARTH

5.0 out of 5 stars John Carpenter's The Fog Re-release October 30, 2012
By C. Dunn
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Ladies and gentlemen, this IS the release of the soundtrack to John Carpenter's "The Fog" that we have all been waiting for. In 2000 it was released on CD for the first time and I purchased it. As fantastic and atmospheric the music is, there quite a few cues that were in the film that were not on the soundtrack. Now, with this new expanded two disc set you get Disc 1 which is labeled the "2000 Remixed Soundtrack Album" and Disc 2 which is "The Original 1980 Score Cues" which has the missing cues not on the 2000 remixed album. In short, it was more than worth the price of "double dipping" to have this CD.
I am fond of John Carpenter's films and music. Yes, Halloween is great, Escape From New York is great and The Thing is just brilliant...however, The Fog ranks as my favorite John Carpenter film of all time (both the film and the soundtrack) and this is more than a worthy addition to anyone's CD soundtrack arsenal.

5.0 out of 5 stars GHOSTS IN THE CHAPEL December 15, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This 2-disc version of the soundtrack for John Carpenter's 1980 horror ghost story comes with music cues and some sound effects not heard on earlier editions. It also includes tracks from the original CD. Produced by Intrada, it is the most complete collection to be be assembled on CD. Fans of the film will want to own this release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome November 4, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
This is one of the scariest music scores you'll hear. If you have the 2000 re-issue, then get this as it has several key pieces of music that were left out last time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fog Is A Place For Dreams January 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD
The Fog is indeed a place for dreams. Inside that thick cloud mist lies an unseen existence and with all its unknown pleasures and atrocities, we continue to gaze into its mysteries yearning for just one, distinct look.

This is what the movie is. It represents that place beyond life where all horror fanatics and newbies alike search for a glimpse into when that new fright flick plays. That clouded place no one is allowed to enter until they are dragged in kicking and screaming no longer able to warn others as to what they've seen.

The music captures all of these things. It's ghostly essence drips from the notes in an utter honesty to what the film's atmosphere was smeared with; no more, no less.

You can't dance to it but it's great for those still, quiet nights.

I think that anyone familiar with John Carpenter's movies ('Halloween', 'The Fog', 'The Thing'[1982]) has also found his scores to be amazingly suitable, if not downright frightening, for his films. 'The Fog' is one of these; it comes close to rivaling 'Halloween' in terms of sheer 'creepiness'. I own the 2000 release of this soundtrack, which apparently was incomplete. For the record, Carpenter's full score - both that 2000 soundtrack re-release and the original 1980 release, which I did not have - are included here.

The tracks are presented here in chronological order; this is a big plus for any soundtrack collector. It begins with the creepy story of the 'Elizabeth Dane', a clipper ship crewed by lepers which was lured onto rocks & wrecked by a group of settlers who planned to plunder its cargo; this uses a creepy piano & synthesizer to set the tone as Mr. Machen (John Houseman) tells a group of children the frightening true story of the 'Elizabeth Dane'. 'Reel 9', which is oddly named, is without a doubt the creepiest track of all; this is when the evil, glowing fog rolls into Antonio Bay and the evil ghosts of the Elizabeth Dane's crew begin exacting their revenge on the townspeople. This track uses a lumbering, booming synthesizer track as the fog threatens some of the characters fleeing in a truck; this changes to a rasping synthesizer as the fog creeps down streets and eventually, down the rocky hill towards the Antonio Bay Lighthouse where Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau) is forced to defend herself against the vengeance-driven ghosts of the 'Elizabeth Dane'. The fog 'theme' makes itself known again in 'Blake in the Sanctuary' as the ghost of Blake - the Elizabeth Dane's owner - confronts Father Malone (Hal Holbrook) to reclaim the gold stolen a century earlier from him.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE END-ALL CREEPIEST MUSIC EVER! December 7, 2012
By Shazam!
Format:Audio CD
Ever since the day I saw this film when it was first released around 1980, it was the soundtrack that caused me to call this THE SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME. And to me, it continues to rank number one over thirty years later. John Carpenter's award-winning soundtrack music recipe here in THE FOG is that of dismal, bleak, horrendous tones and droning, pale, nervous and even sickly melodies masterfully stitched together, creating mind-numbing terror even without visuals. If ever there was a way to "paint" clammy, fight-or-flight terror with music, this is absolutely it. Every track is an incredibly creepy soundscape. I couldn't be happier that I actually own a copy of this soundtrack and can play it in my own home in such high definition, preserved forever. But I swear I still can't listen to this music in the dark. It still makes me shiver and causes my heart to pound. It absolutely scares the life out of me all these years later. Thank you, John.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very atmospheric soundtrack
Great soundtrack - very eerie and moody. I'm not a huge fan of Cartpenter's synthtracks but this one I love - really adds to the atmosphere of the film.
