I found the text did not cohere well and tended to be jumpy and difficult to follow.
It is a beautiful part of the world and Menocal has provided us with a wonderful history of the area during the time of its greatest glory: the Middle Ages.
This book I could recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about the early history of modern Europe.
