Book Description

Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander series blends rich historical fiction with riveting adventure and a truly epic love story. Now, with this convenient seven-volume eBook bundle, discover the novels that have won Gabaldon millions of fans and introduced readers to the brilliant Claire Randall and valiant Highlander Jamie Fraser.

“Great fun . . . marvelous and fantastic adventures, romance, sex . . . perfect escape reading.”—San Francisco Chronicle, on Outlander

The year is 1946. Claire Randall is a British ex-combat nurse on a postwar second honeymoon with her husband in the Scottish Highlands. Walking alone one afternoon, she passes through a circle of standing stones and is hurled back in time to a Scotland simmering with war in the year of our Lord 1743. Catapulted into an intrigue of rival clans and rising armies that threatens her life, she’s obliged to wed James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, as the only way to survive. Thus begins a series of unrivaled storytelling that has become a modern classic. This bundle includes:

OUTLANDER
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
VOYAGER
DRUMS OF AUTUMN
THE FIERY CROSS
A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES
AN ECHO IN THE BONE

“Diana Gabaldon is a born storyteller . . . the pages practically turn themselves.”—The Arizona Republic, on Dragonfly in Amber

“A feast for ravenous readers of eighteenth-century Scottish history, heroism, and romance.”—Kirkus Reviews, on Outlander

5.0 out of 5 stars Stories to be reread November 6, 2012
By Celia
Format:Kindle Edition
I first read the series several years ago. With the the portability and ease of reading electronically I am reliving the stories of Clare and Jamie and Brianna and Roger et al again.

How sad that people clamor over the 50 Shades of .... books. This is so much more fulfilling. As "romance" novels have become more bold and inclusive of explicit dialog I find myself skipping through that. Been there done that. Insert Tab A into Slot B... etc. etc. borING. I want the emotion and feeling of the relationship.

Diana delivers the emotion, sights, sounds, smells, triumphs and failures with her words. She always finds alliterative and clever phrasing to bring everything alive - whether it is a trip across the sea or a dangerous encounter or mundane every tasks or Clare and Jamie enjoying the delights of each other intimately. The characters live and breathe.

There are not many books I reread. I am glad I chose to reread the Outlander Series. There is so much richness and depth I had forgotten. I also note things I missed the first time which deepen the experience of the stories.

These are excellent stories with something for most everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars lacking in ebook functions February 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read the outlander series before, the Diana Gabaldon's stories are amazing!.

What stinks about this compilation is the inability to find your place, or use the xray function in kindle. It's all jumbled together in one format and if you knew a location in one book, forget it, is all globbed together.

Please, reformat this and send a revision.

3.0 out of 5 stars Books are great, format not so much February 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Diana's books get 5 stars, this format gets about 2. I thought the price was too good to be true, I returned this set and am going to buy it book by book. The set's navigation is just too cumbersome. This format allows you to go from book to book relatively easily but then getting around in each individual book is problematical.

If you love her stories and rereading them like I do, spend the extra and get each book on its own. That way you not only get sections you get chapters too, it is an important thing in books this size.

5.0 out of 5 stars My absolute favorite series of books!!!! November 1, 2012
By Yari
Format:Kindle Edition
This books have a little bit of everything: history, time traveling, drama, romance, adventure, mystery and even some comedy. Diana Gabaldon's description of events, people, places, emotions, objects and even smells is captivating. I've read all seven books and kept me crying, laughing, sad, angry, bitting my nails and more... I fell in love with Jamie, Claire, Lord John and dozens of characters that make this my absolute favorite series of books. A read guaranteed to delight you. Also make sure to check out Lord John series of books which are related to the Outlander series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Re-Read These Books! November 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Each time a new book in the series comes out I re-read them from the beginning. By the time I am done I feel like I am leaving friends. These books are by far one of my all time favorites. I debated on re-purchasing them for my Kindle, but a glance at the 12 inch+ space on my bookshelf housing the hardback versions, I could not resist. Truly glad of the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love these books! August 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was so happy to find these books all bundled together! The story is great! I am on book 2 so I have a ways to go but so far it is fabulous! The story includes rich detail and character development.

The only negative comment I have about this bundle is that it is hard to know how far along you are in a book since all 7 books are one file. I would suggest bookmarking the TOC for the series and each book so you can quickly reference it!

As a reader: There's a reason I find myself reviewing all these books at once: I read them so fast, one after the other, that I actually couldn't tell you where one ended and the next began. The characters, plot, and setting were equally enticing to me. Claire is strong, yet not brash. Jaime is everything a girl wants in an alpha-male of a romance book--pig-headed and overbearing on the outside, while sensitive and compassionate on the inside. Did I mention he's also hot and wearing a kilt most of the time? Yum. Add to that plots with plenty of twists, well-researched historical details, and enough humor to balance out the darker moments, and I was hooked for the long haul.

As a writer: My one complaint is that it is indeed a verra, verra long haul. Gabaldon admits she wrote book one, Outlander, as a writing exercise, with no concern over length. In the 90's apparently publishing such a debut novel was possible; today it would be unheard of, even as good as this story was. I'm not a proponent of strict word counts just for the sake of word counts, but these books are definitely an example of works where a good editor helping to trim the fat would have benefitted everyone. Beyond book one the biggest problem for me was that there was too much rehashing of events from prior books. Different people share varying philosophies on this, but my view is, if you're going to write a series, write a series. Assume readers have read the previous works. If they haven't and want to know more, they'll go back. Don't punish loyal readers by bogging down the plot. That said, I loved the stories enough to learn to skim some--careful, of course, to stop whenever that kilt came off!

Bottom line: If you like romance with a heavy dose of action and history and you have the time or will make the time for book that's a little wordy, and a little unique, but really entertaining, than this series is worth picking up!
