Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Jack Lynn Schauer is a student of the human condition, wielding the written craft to enrapture the mind much like an artist wields a brush. The pages are a blank canvas on which to draw from a talent heralded by many and matched only by an imagination that rises to the task. The Outsiders is the first in a series of recent pursuits, with work progressing quickly on the follow-up.

From the Author

It has taken me some 2 and 1/2 years to complete the research and writing of this book. I have always been fascinated with the existentialist writers, particularly Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre, having read almost all of their books and essays. I actually first became interested in the writings of Albert Camus after doing research on Robert Kennedy, as Senator from New York. After reading Jack Newfield's Memoir of Robert Kennedy, published back in 1968, I was fascinated by Newfield's description of Kennedy as an individual who was constantly changing and in turn reinventing himself through authentic direct action. Thus, as Newfield writes "his end was always unknown."

Format: Paperback
Great 20th-century thinkers apply wisdom to current events in this fictional account. What would writer Albert Camus and existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre make of this modern world? That's the idea behind this slight fiction that finds the philosophers debating politics and war in the present day. The characterizations are reasonably sound and the book should appeal to students of existential literature. It is a brief but inspired reimaging of the latter years of the existentialist.
