Book Description

No one ever said Gayle Lindley's first job would be a killer.

Fresh out of college, Gayle's career path should follow the yellow brick road straight to the top. Thanks to a menial errand gone wrong, a wayward tongue, and a randy supervisor who won't take 'no' for an answer, Gayle's stuck in corporate hell.

Discovering a company secret only turns up the heat.

The one part of her life not going down in flames is her friendship with the gorgeous, but intensely private, Jon Cripps. Jon would make the perfect consolation prize for Gayle's pity party if dating a co-worker wasn't career suicide. Then again, with all Gayle has been through, maybe falling in love is the lucky break she needs.

Hitting the cool sheets with Jon soothes her mind and body, but it also enrages whoever's behind the smokescreen she's uncovered at work. Someone is willing to kill to protect their secrets, and Gayle and Jon are the targets.

With both her heart and livelihood at stake, Gayle's early career-limiting moves could turn into life-terminating ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read April 15, 2012
By shieka
Format:Kindle Edition
An awesome, engaging read. This was a great book. This book was the right mix of mystery, suspense and romance. I loved delving into the world of accounting through the eyes of Gayle. This isn't the type of book I would normally read but I'm so glad I did as I loved it. Gayle was such a character to adore. I loved her willingness to put herself out there, her fight to take on her harrasers, and her ability to do it all while falling in love with John. I loved that Gayle didn't let anyone talk down to her and she knew just how to work people and get things done. It was so cute to see such a fireball considering she was so little. This book was good as the author explained the accounting world in terms the average person would understand. It felt like since Gayle and John were leading the story it made more sense. Gayle and John's hijinks along the way as they try to solve the mystery were hilarous at some points. I found myself just laughing out loud at some of it. John was such a great match for Gayle. They complemented each other so well and played off of each other well. The chemistry between them was amazing too. You could just tell they would end up together and sizzle once they did. Overall this was a great read and I would highly recommend it to others

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!! April 12, 2012
By tt
Format:Kindle Edition
*I received this book as an ARC for an honest review from the publisher*

This review wont be a long one because I loved this book! When I read the blurb I really didn't think I would like this book but I was very surprised at how fast I fell into this story.

When you read the first page you are immediately taken in by the main character "Gayle" ease dropping on her co-worker and hearing some scandalous information that could incriminate her bosses and leave her with no job. Even though Gayle is a new hire and is constantly getting harassed by her supervisor it doesn't stop her from getting to the bottom of whats going on with her firm behind closed doors. Even if the scandal might cost her her life and the people she cares for.

This was a complete and utter fun read! The story flowed very well and all the characters were fully developed to a "T"! I also liked how the plot and setting was based around the work place but the author doesn't overload the reader with all the logistics of the job. Kudos to the Claire Gillian for doing her homework on the in's and out's of the cooperate world and still keeping the read fun and understandable. The unwinding romance was the perfect touch in this story. I loved watching Gayle's and Jon's relationship evolve from friends to serious relationship throughout the read and I was rooting for them till the end!

This book has laughs,mystery,sexy-ness,& OMG moments that will keep you guessing who did it through the entire read! I will definitely read more of Gillian's book to come

I recommend to: Everyone over the age of 16! This is a must read if you like romance, mystery, and scandal.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I blew through this book. It was a fun, well paced story. Other reviewers have recapped the plot, so I won't waste your time here. I found the characters enjoyable and believable. The dialogue was witty and crisp. The pacing was perfect.

I'm so glad I gave a new author a shot ... and you should too! It is totally worth the $4.99.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise! April 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've never been much of a fan of the contemporary romances or any type of Mystery/suspense, so I wasn't entirely sure how much I would enjoy this debut novel when I received the Advance Copy in my review email. As an avid reader of historicals and fantasy novels, I was curious to see if this one would really hold my interest in the same way as those types of stories generally do.

I was pleasantly surprised by The P.U.R.E. Not only did I enjoy the book a lot more than I had expected, I actually finished the novel in a day. That is how good it was. I couldn't tell you the last time I have done that -- even with a fantasy novel.

Ms. Gillian does a stellar job of drawing the reader in from the first page and keeping them hooked throughout the story. The main character, Gayle Lindley is smart and sassy, definitely not a simpering sort by any stretch, and I just loved that about her. Her love interest in the novel, her co-worker, Jon Cripps is the perfect blend of mysterious and sexy.

The best thing about this novel for me, was the fact that the mystery was so well written. I didn't know who the bad guy really was until the last chapter, despite "thinking" I knew far before that. Some great twists and turns in this one.

Even with all that suspense and mystery, Ms Gillian still finds the time to woo us with some steamy hot love scenes and fabulous descriptive writing.

A must read for anyone who enjoys suspense peppered with a hearty helping of romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Book even though not my usual genre! April 15, 2012
By Sanz
Format:Kindle Edition

I really enjoyed this book, I had been reading a lot of fantasy/paranormal so this was a nice change. It has mystery, suspense, danger and of course some romance! i actually couldn't bear to put this book down I started reading it around tea time and ended up taking my kindle up to bed and continued reading until I finished the book.
Gayle's relationship with Jon at the beginning of the book is mere work colleagues, but it grows into a true friendship when Gayle is being harassed by her supervisor. Then eventually it turns to love.....but can Gayle truly trust Jon? Is he what he seems merely a very private quiet man or is Jon hiding a secret?
Gayle has plenty of problems at work with the continuing and escalating sexual harassment, then she uncover a fraud at a company where she is auditing. the more she uncovers the more dangerous her life becomes. There's a murder, but even that doesn't even stop Gayle from digging further to find out who is responsible for the fraud. This book has you thinking and "playing detective" along with Gayle. It is so well written it has you guessing as to who the bad guys are right to the very ending of the book! I hope we get to read more escapades with Gayle and Jon.
I also like the cover. The colours of the business attire, promote the seriousness of the book and the world that the characters work in.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes Would I read more by Claire Gillian? Definitely would I recommend this book? I already have to my mum!
*WARNING* this book does contain some sexual references, innuendo and scenes, so is aimed at adults.
