Review

"The Paleo Coach is not just another Paleo book—it's a priceless tool that is absolutely essential for anyone striving to live the best life possible. The insight, advice, and lessons in this book could come only from someone like Jason, who has spent serious time deep in the trenches of the health-and-fitness industry. With his hands-on experience, understanding, and innumerable success stories, Jason reveals what it takes to look beyond the hype and focus on what really matters: your own personal path to health. Everyone should have a coach, and now everyone can. The Paleo Coach will change your life. Guaranteed."—Sarah Fragoso, author of the national bestseller Everyday Paleo

"Everyone needs a coach. Yes, everyone! When your car is broken, you take it to a 'car coach' (aka mechanic). If your plumbing is backed up, you call a 'pipe coach' (some people call them plumbers). Whom do you go to if you want to improve how you look, feel, and perform? A Paleo coach. Like Jason Seib. In the same way that mechanics are experts in what ails cars (and, most important, how to fix those cars), Jason is an expert in all things nutrition and strength-and-conditioning. He has learned his craft through years of research, trial, error, and helping people. Whether your goal is weight loss, being a top-level athlete, or just regaining enough youthful vigor to chase the kids or grandkids, I'd like to introduce you to the man who will help you meet your goals: Meet your new Paleo coach, Jason Seib."—Robb Wolf, author of the New York Times bestseller The Paleo Solution

"Let Jason Seib be the Paleo coach in your life to help you cut to the chase and get to the meat of the matter about becoming as optimally healthy as you can possibly be! His nuanced understanding of how to live like our hunter-gatherer ancestors in today's world of iPads, the Internet, and American Idol is sorely needed. Other Paleo books may promise to help you lose X amount of weight in two weeks, but The Paleo Coach offers you much, much more. Jason realizes that it takes a dedicated commitment to implement a lifestyle change and homes in on key principles aimed at delivering big changes in your weight, health, and outlook on life."—Jimmy Moore, Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Blog and Podcast

Jason Seib has done for health and fitness what Tim Ferris did for the four-hour workweek: he has taken all the myths we hold dear and stripped them away. What is left is a route to a better body that is shockingly simple. No need for long hours of cardio, warrior like workouts or starvation diets. According to Seib you only need two hours total per week to get fit. Skeptics will think this is too good to be true but Paleo Coach lays out a plan for doing so. Quick fitness is possible becuase so much of the amazing advice is grounded in simplicity: walk more, do short sprints, pay attention to what you put into your body.

The Paleo Coach is divided into three sections: Think, Eat and Move. Each of these deals with a different aspect of health. As a psychologist I am drawn particularly to the "think" section and heartily endorse Seib's advice about changing your mindset where health and fitness are concerned. He alternates between challenge and cheekiness. Sections like "you can't fix a body you hate" and "scale addiction" seem tailor-made for the weight and body image obsessed (and who among us doesn't feel a tug in that direction?). Readers wh are particularly curious about adopting Paleo eating strategies will find the recipes and nutrition advice in the "eat" section to be particularly helpful.

Seib brings his experience as a fitness trainer, gym owner, paleo guru, and all around intelligent person to bear on life's most important topic: health. This book is so worth it!

There are few books I wish I had stumbled upon years ago. This one lands at the top of that short list. With all the (mis)information available about weight loss, health, and exercise it is easy to get confused, or worse yet, get convinced that conventional diets (low fat, caloric restriction, etc.) and static-state cardio routines are the ways to achieve a healthy weight and a healthy body. That is what I did, and after years of chasing a goal of having a thin body, all I had achieved was a chubby tummy, damaged metabolism, and an overall decrease in my health. I didn't understand why this was happening because I thought I was doing everything right. Of course, since I had yet to learn better, my solution to this problem was to do more cardio and cut back even more on my calories. *sigh* Like I said, I *really* wish I had this book about 15 years ago. The Paleo Coach taught me that reaching and maintaining a healthy body weight is the accidental side effect of a healthy lifestyle, not dieting or sweating buckets for an hour at the gym. So how does one eat right and move right in order to achieve such grand, previously unattainable results? Well, that is all laid out by Jason Seib in this book, and it starts with changing one's headspace. I love Jason's approach to the topic of health and wellness. He combines his vast knowledge of science, a sense of humor and a healthy dose of common sense to guide even the most wayward dieter onto the right path. A path that will lead anyone and everyone who applies his advice to a level of health that is better than they ever thought they could achieve. I'm living proof of that! Thanks to Jason's advice and guidance, I have seen nearly every single health problem disappear (including my excess fat!Read more ›

I really am sorry to be the first negative review, but someone has to be honest here. If this is the very first Paleo book you've ever picked up, then you will like the tone and the information. It really is an easy read with good information. If, like me, this is not the first Paleo book and you wanted to pick this book up because it's called Paleo COACH and you thought there'd be good information about how to work out and what to do if you don't have a good gym nearby (or possibly would rather not pay your local crossfit affiliate several hundred each month), then I am sorry to say you should look elsewhere. Eat well, move often, lift heavy things occasionally, sprint occasionally. Sound familiar?

Jason sounds like a great coach. If you live near him, you should probably go to his gym. If you don't live near him, his book tells you how to find a trainer near you. His book also tells you that if you have any excuses then you haven't made your health your priority. Everything else can be found in any one of the Paleo books that probably came up when you searched for this one.

I returned my Kindle edition for a refund. I am much happier with It Starts With Food, Practical Paleo, Everyday Paleo, and Well Fed. I was really hoping for something that would help break down the exercise portion of the Paleo lifestyle for best effects. This book is a good overview, but isn't what I was looking for.

I borrowed this book from a friend,as I've been interested in the Paleo lifestyle. I've purchased and read a handful of Paleo/Primal books, but most of them are RECIPES.. I wanted some information, encouragement and knowledge of the "hows" and "whys".. I got all of that, PLUS recipes, and MORE in the Paleo Coach!
I read..a lot! I was a touch obsessed about this book, until it was finished..then I missed it!
Jason has a way of actually HELPING you through his words. He talks a lot about how people self-sabotage without realizing it. I saw myself in a lot of the examples. (If I go off course one day, I just pop the rest of the tires, rather than fixing the ONE FLAT!!! Read the book, you'll understand!) When he promised epiphanies, he wasn't messing around. There were so many light bulb moments for me in here.. But the one I can't get out of my mind is the discussion about our senses. What are you willing to sacrifice in order to TASTE SOMETHING. I imagine that you wouldn't willingly sacrifice your heart health, your ability to walk, etc... but we do!! He GETS IT, and he's able to convey to others in a way that makes sense! I appreciated the insight and his personality coming through. I don't want a drill sergeant attitude, and I don't want someone who doesn't care...I found that he is perfectly in the middle. He DOES CARE about people, and he has a way of encouraging and enlightening you that would've been previously unimaginable for me.
DO BUY THIS BOOK, you WILL NOT REGRET IT!! -I purchased it today in the Kindle version, and I will likely get a hard copy to have as well. This will be my "go-to", and I can't wait to start flipping through it, again! I hope to someday have the opportunity to see Jason for some training. I think very highly of him, and have never met him!

If you're looking for more than just food info, more than just training info, and more than just "mental" information-this book brings it all together....FINALLY!!!
